The Top 10 Best things in detail:

1: The Looks.

Citroën C3 is funky and cute. It appeals to people who want something different. There is nothing more depressing than going in to a carpark and seeing a sea of blancmange. They’re just boring cars owned by boring people who have lost the will to live.

They’re dull and soulless, like big fat undercooked puddings.

Citroën C3 on the other hand is a delight. A 2-level face looks cheery, but is functional too.

2: Air Bumps

This is the stand-out feature of the festive face of Citroën C3. Huge plastic panels on the side are filled with bold rectangular bumps, like Braille for giants!

At the launch, we banged a bevy shopping trollies into them, and it just shrugged it off like it was yesterday’s news.

3: Smart Lock

OK, this feature is not particularly rare, but there is nothing that ruins a day faster than fiddling about in your nether regions only to find it completely full of no keys.

Citroën have seen the light, and rolled out this nifty gadget to assuage the lazy and befuddled. It means there is a push-button for start too.

4: The Drive

Delicious suspension is generous and luxurious. It pampers passengers pleasantly, and never, ever lets go. You can push the old girl as hard as you like, through the tightest corners you can find, and it grips like a kid to candy.

Steering is light, so parking is a doddle.

Not only is the soft like a limo, but the handling verges on psychic. In many ways it is better than a head-banging, GT, because you have absolutely nothing to prove.

5: Lightness

Even small cars can feel like big lifeless lumps of lead. C3 always feels lively. The lightness comes not just from the airy cabin, but from go-cart-like handling. It switches direction like a cat-on-carpet. It is playful, like a naughty cousin at Christmas.

6: The Cabin

C3 Shine heads the Citroën passenger car line-up. In fact, it is the only passenger car in the line-up. That means the interior has to be tickety-boo, and it is.

There is just a hint of vintage, with technology kept on the downlow. A floating tablet keeps the controls in a single spot, and buttons and knobs all make sense, without needing big hugs every time you want to lower a window.

7: Features

Citroën added AEB recently. They also made keyless entry and start standard, and there is blind spot warning for the permanently bewildered.

C3 is one of the few cars on the market with an inbuilt Dashcam. Not only does it keep videos of your trip handy, but you can share pics on social media. If you aren’t chronically self-absorbed, the video can simply be used to keep a track of the kids, or, to convince the insurance company that it “weren’t you wot dun it.”

8: Ambience

C3 has an air about it. It feels uncomplicated, and this simplicity is relaxing. It recalls travel of days gone by, the days of  stickered travel-trunks, straw boaters, and white linen suits. It’s not in your face, but sitting in the driver’s seat for more than a few seconds transports you to another time and place.

9: Drive Train

At 81kW/205Nm, the 3 cylinder 1.2L turbo Petrol isn’t the most powerful unit around, but it is a bunch of fun anyway. The 6-speed automatic gives the rev range just the right amount of fabulousness.

There is a raspy growl from down low, somewhere deep in the inner sanctum. There are only two pedals, so changing gears is something you don’t need to worry about.

C3 is reasonably frugal too.

10: Comfort

Seating has the same lounge feel of the original Citroën DS. The cushioning is deep and generous. The design is joyous and fun, with a few inspired by classic luggage.

Headroom is amazing, with many inches between your head and the roof. Who has ever complained about extra inches?

Space in the rear is bijou, but cosy up to a cushion and leave the tough stuff to the blokes up front.
