Friday, 15 November 2013 – TV adventurer, travel writer and actor, Charley Boorman, has today been announced as the second driver on the grid for the Mazda3 Celebrity Challenge bringing with him a passion and enthusiasm for motorsport.
A self-confessed rev-head, Boorman is best known for his role alongside actor and close friend, Ewan McGregor, in their “Long Way Round” series, where they travelled over 32,186 kilometres by motorcycle across 12 countries in just 115 days.
As an avid Formula 1 and motorsports fan, Boorman said he was absolutely thrilled to be taking part in the Mazda3 Celebrity Challenge and is hoping his years of riding motorcycles will translate on the track.
“I am so excited to be coming to Australia to take part in the Mazda3 Celebrity Challenge,” said Boorman. “I’m absolutely elated to be racing on the same track as the Formula 1 drivers and am of course looking forward to beating all the other celebrities.”
The Mazda3 Celebrity Challenge will feature 20 vehicles and will bring together celebrities from a wide variety of backgrounds and disciplines to compete at Melbourne’s spectacular Albert Park street circuit during the 2014 Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix.
Confirmed drivers for the 2014 Mazda3 Celebrity Challenge include Lauren Phillips and Charley Boorman with more celebrities to be announced in the coming weeks.
Re-designed from the ground up, the All-New Mazda3 adopts the stylish ‘KODO – Soul of Motion’ design language and the full suite of efficient SKYACTIV Technologies.
Drivers will be better connected than ever before thanks to a new car connectivity system that allows easier access to phone, email and SMS, as well as Stitcher and Aha.
Including an Active Driving Display, All-New Mazda3 is expected to be a favourite with Australians when it arrives in early 2014.
