Some of the most stately British vehicles of the Post War era will be up for grabs at realistic prices at Shannons Melbourne Spring Auction on September 19, with a half-dozen prime examples going under the hammer.

From Crewe there is a grand Grey-over-Black 1950 Bentley Mark 6 with imposing saloon ‘Freestone & Webb’ coachwork that is expected to sell in the $30,000-$36,000 range.

Equally fabulous for anyone wanting to arrive in the epitome of British style is a stunning Ruby Red-over-White 1950 Daimler Special Sports Drophead – one of only 500 built with elegant Barker & Co coachwork – while from Jaguar there is a extensively-restored Black-over-Clotted Cream 1947 Jaguar Mk V 2.5-litre saloon that comes with a known history from new.

The Daimler is expected to sell in the $36,000-$42,000 range, while because of its provenance and stunning presentation, Shannons expect the Jaguar to make $60,000-$68,000.

Also from the 1950s, but much more sporting is a stunning, Cotswold Blue with Red leather 1955 Jaguar XK140 SE Fixed Head Coupe that enticingly is being offered with ‘no reserve’.

This sought-after and increasingly collectible XK is an original factory Special Equipment model equipped with a more powerful 3.4 litre engine and a twin exhaust system.

It was originally a LHD Export model, but has been in Australia for many years, during when it took part in the Darwin to Alice Springs Anniversary event back in 1991 and was the subject of a RHD conversion and a bare metal restoration that incorporated many sensible upgrades. 

Because of its sought-after ‘SE’ status, presentation and fabulous period colour scheme, Shannons expect the XK140 to sell in the $120,000-$130,000 range.

Also being offered with ‘no reserve’ in the September 19 auction with a guiding range of $35,000-$45,000 is a beautifully-presented and well-maintained 1961 Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud II V8 Saloon finished in classic White that has been refurbished cosmetically.
Another ‘absolutely fabulous’ entry-level British Classics that is a rare sight on today’s roads is a restored Black-over-Gold 1954 Armstrong-Siddeley Sapphire Saloon ($14,000-$18,000).
