Holden has appointed 2011 Tour De France champion, Cadel Evans as its newest ambassador, signing a deal that will see him partner with Holden in a series of promotional activities to support the company’s range of vehicles.

Holden Executive Director – Sales and Marketing, Philip Brook said that Cadel’s achievements as an Australian winning on the world stage made him an ideal ambassador for Holden.

“Holden has already announced some blockbuster sporting partnerships this year, including the NRL and Collingwood Football Club and we’re very proud that Cadel Evans will also be representing our brand in Australia and around the world.

“Cadel’s achievements in cycling make him a sporting icon, from winning the Tour de France in 2011 to being one of only four cyclists to ever finish on the podium for each Grand Tour event and also win a Road World Championship.  He is a true Aussie champion.”

Holden has been a strong supporter of cycling for many years and established the Holden Women’s Cycling Team in 2012.

“With more cycles sold each year than cars, cycling has become a national pastime for Australians. The growth in participation reflects the success of elite sportsmen and women like Cadel Evans and our own women’s cycling team,” said Philip Brook.

“Like Cadel, Holden has also taken on the world this year, recently setting a world record lap for a production commercial vehicle at the punishing Nürburgring and recommencing our US export program, sending the impressive Chevrolet SS to America as their newest rear-wheel-drive performance sedan.”

At home in Europe last month, Cadel Evans took the new Holden VF SS-V Redline Ute for a spin on some of Italy’s most spectacular roads.

Accompanied by his dog, Molly, Cadel got behind the wheel of the same record breaking Ute that features in the successful Nürburgring world record lap and TV commercial, putting his foot to a very different pedal.

“It was very special to take the new VF Ute for a drive on roads I love and have come to consider my European backyard,” said Cadel Evans.

“Back at home, I’ve had a Holden in my Australian garage for as long as I can remember and I’m honoured to be representing a brand that I have such passion for.”
