BMW Ix Pace Car at Melbourne Marathon Festival

Competitors in this past weekend’s Melbourne Marathon Festival had the first-ever, fully emissions-free, BMW iX as the pace car leading the 42.195-kilometre course.

The iX goes on sale in Australia this month, and signals the start of BMW’s partnership with the  Melbourne Marathon Festival.

The all-new models BMW iX3, BMW iX, and BMW i4 Gran Coupé will be launched locally and were all available to view.

The BMW iX electric pace car brings back memories of the1972 Olympic Games in Munich, when BMW 1602 Electric prototype was the support vehicle for the marathon.

The 1602 Electric had a 32kW DC shunt-wound motor whose power came from 12 standard 12-volt lead-acid batteries positioned on a pallet in the engine bay.
