Ford Australia has announced the cancellation of Focus ST, Focus ST X and Fiesta ST for the end of 2022. This move takes all but one passenger car off the market, leaving Mustang to carry the torch for a company once completely focused on passenger cars. Ford claims SUVs, commercial vehicles and electrification will be their focus in future.
“Both the Focus ST and Fiesta ST have been segment-defining hot hatches for Ford Australia and have put smiles on the faces of enthusiasts across the country, and we want to thank those fans for their passion,” said Andrew Birkic, President and CEO, Ford Australia.
“But with semi-conductor-related supply shortages and our focus on emerging areas of growth, we’ve made the difficult decision to call time on these iconic hot hatches in Australia. We look forward to sharing more about the next era of our performance vehicle line-up soon,” said Birkic.
Gay hot-hatch enthusiasts have been among the biggest lovers of the perky pocket rockets, and have told GayCarBoys that they are not Mustang buyers. They say they’ll shift their allegiances to other bands.

A shipment of 40 Focus STs has been ordered to give buyers the chance of grabbing the last of an era.
Fiesta ST began with the Fiesta XR2 in 1981, signalling the beginning of the mini hot-hatch era, and as the last of its supply is sold, it too will have its iconic face withdrawn from the Australian website.
World-wide sales of passenger has been sliding for well over a decade, but the last 5 years saw passeneger car sales eclipsed by SUVs and LCVs such as Ranger ute.
“The Ford Mustang remains the country’s most popular sports car, and we’re preparing for the launch of the Next-Generation Ranger Raptor which sets a new performance benchmark for dual-cab utes in Australia,” said Birkic.
Ford Focus ST, ST X and Fiesta ST will have ongoing support from Ford, with servicing and parts freely available.
