MELBOURNE, Oct 15, 2016 — One of Australia’s most exclusive supercars, the high-performance hybrid Honda NSX, has returned to Melbourne for a starring role at Crown Melbourne.

Honda NSX at Crown Towers Atrium gaycarboys (1)The $420,000* supercar — the only one of its type in the country — was this morning driven silently in full electric mode through the Crown  food-court, passing high-end boutiques and finally arriving at the Crown Towers Atrium, where it will be on display for two weeks until Sunday October 30.

The Crown Melbourne display is part of a national road-show for the exclusive supercar. It has already been on show at several Honda dealers nationally; Yarra Honda in Richmond, Austral Honda in Brisbane and Nordic Honda in Adelaide.

After its encore Melbourne performance, the car will be carefully packaged and shipped to Western Australia for its next stop at the Burswood Honda dealership in Perth.

Since its launch several months ago, the sophisticated NSX has received acclaim for being a technological innovator in the supercar category. It has been praised by the media for the performance of its hybrid drivetrain, sophisticated all-wheel drive dynamics and aluminium-intensive space frame design.

“We’re really excited that there’s been so much interest in the NSX and the Atrium at Crown Towers is the perfect location and opportunity for thousands of Melburnians and visitors to see the car,” said Honda Australia Director, Mr. Stephen Collins.

“With the popular Spring Racing Carnival in full swing and a host of other spring-time activities in Melbourne, Crown and the Riverwalk precinct will be full with visitors.”

The NSX comes standard with a carbon fibre exterior and interior package, as well as high-performance carbon-ceramic brakes. Customers will be able to choose from a range of eight exterior colours and combination of four high-quality interior trims. They will also be able to mix-and-match their interior choices to the exterior paint scheme.

Three types of premium paint will be available — metallic, pearlescent and Andaro®, which is a special nanoparticle pearlescent paint.  The NSX on display at Crown is presented in the lustrous Valencia Red Pearl Andaro® paint colour^.

Mr. Collins said the arrival of the NSX had injected renewed vigour into the brand.

“With the initial success of our all-new Honda Civic and the on-going popularity of the HR-V SUV, Honda’s momentum continues to build and the NSX is literally the icing on the cake,” Mr. Collins said.

“Having the NSX on show at Crown Melbourne also helps spread the message amongst potential customers that Honda remains a technology tour-de-force with the expertise to build high-end supercars, in addition to popular, quality cars such as the Jazz, Civic, Accord, Odyssey, HR-V and CR-V.”

Mr. Collins said due to its limited availability in Australia, the NSX would be a rare sight on Australian roads. “Honda customers who purchase this car will know they are in a very exclusive club,” he said.

Only five Honda dealers nationally will sell the NSX.  The five dealerships are:

  • Yarra Honda (VIC)
  • Scotts Honda (NSW)
  • Austral Honda (QLD)
  • Nordic Honda (SA)
  • Burswood Honda (WA)

Foremost among the many innovations in the NSX is Sport Hybrid Super Handling All Wheel Drive (Sport Hybrid SH-AWD), a first-of-its-kind technology in the supercar category. The NSX also has four dynamic driving modes via the Integrated Dynamics System — Quiet, Sport, Sport+ and Track.
For the technically minded, the NSX’s Sport Hybrid power unit offers exceptional performance with a broad powerband for tremendous acceleration and throttle response. Total system peak output is 427 kW.

NSX History – Australia
The original NSX was sold in Australia from 1991 and up until 2004. Less than 150 were sold during this period and original versions are now highly prized among collectors and enthusiasts. The original was also the first mass produced car to feature an all-aluminium body.
