New Gen Bentley Bentayga Goes Plug IN Hybrid

Bentley’s Bentayga Hybrid is finally for sale in the United Kingdom and Europe, following its launch in the USA and China.

Bentayga Hybrid aims to make the posh SUV a bit less of a drunken sot. 45% of Bentaygas sold in China since its launch, have been for the hybrid. It seems to world has a taste for luxury with an eye for economy.

The Hybrid comes in at the same price as the V8 version, so buyers just have to decide what drivetrain they want. The latest generation of Bentayga Hybrid is as ghostly quiet as ever, but brings a cornucopia of new technologies and connected car services. They say it is the most technically advanced Bentayga to date.

Not only that, it merely sips at the drink.

Plug-in hybrids can charge at home, then run on EV only power for 25 miles on WLTP drive cycle: fuel consumption of a Combined 83.1 mpg (3.4L/100k). The combined CO₂  of 82g/km is stunningly low for a car of this size and power. Owners of the 1^st generation say they can run almost exclusively on electric power, which is quite the win.

Bentayga shares much of its DNA with other brands in the VW group and if you squint just right, you can see a bit of Audi, and perhaps a touch of Touareg.

Once the owner has run out of battery power, the V6 cuts in to run the big SUV like any other hybrid. Gay couples everywhere will have their dogs jumping for joy. Sadly the capable SUV probably won’t see much off-road action, so the dog park driveway will be about it.

Bentayga Hybrid is the first of two new Bentley hybrids that will begin production this year, with the next to be revealed later this summer. As part of Bentley’s Beyond100 strategy, a BEV will appear over the next few years. This electric vehicle signals the confirmation of the shift away from combustion engines, for good.
