Group 1: Kondalilla Falls

day3: Early brekky. It’s a nice day for a change so it looks like we should take the pug for a spin up the mountain. The stupid Satnav took us half way back along the coast road before joining the Sunshine Motorway. Still, not a total loss as the beaches are sparkling in the bright sunlight today
A decent stereo in the Peugeot thankfully. The auto is sloppy and far too eager to get into 6th so best kept in Sports Mode. You get a snappier change at sensible intervels at the expense of economy. Speaking of which we’ve use 1/3 of a tank but the distance to empty is over 800k’s. Impressive much?
We hit the mountain roads and OMG the 508 is fab in sports mode. It’s a big exec salaoon (I miss my RCZ here) but feels sprightly. Damn and blast! A detour because of a washed out road. A local tells us it washed out 2 years ago, typical QLD. Backtrack a bit and go along the B road, yeah right the A raod wasn’t all that flash.
Emerged from this gloat track glued to the side of a mountain smack in the centre of Montville, and it’s exactly as I remember it. A late 1800’s logging village now relying totally on tourism. A chamring main street runs along the top of the range with houses and businesses perched procariously either side. See view from Poets cafe.
Lunched on fresh scallops and pancetta at Poets Cafe. YUM. Onlt one glass of wine drat-it-all.
On to Kondalilla Falls in the arvo. Took pics until the camera went dead. Iphone pics not quite up to snuff and the video even worse. It’s time for a new camera.
Short walk down a hill from the carpark to the entrance to the walk. Passed a cheeky Kooka who was making a meal of worms. How did he see them?
The walk varies between rain forest and dodgy narrow steps. In parts the edge steeply drops hundreds of metres. It’s warm and sticky so the first pool looked mighty fine. It’s like a movie set with the water glowing from a shaft of light through the thick overhead canopy.
The next stopping pint is the “rockpools” at the head of the main falls. Again like a movie set. See photos and dodgy shaky videos.
Down a further steep path and stairs and WOW! the falls look magnificent. Paused for a moment, took some photos for the outrageously attractive American tourists following us, then headed back. Path going back much less of a picnic when you’re walking up the steps instead of down.
Back home for spa, cocktails by the pool and a jolly good steam for the tired muscles. I’m knackered.
