As a youth, he saw two men kissing. His father told him that the men loved each other. At a time when it was not politically kosher, Biden formed opinions. But, it was not until the 2000’s that Joe Biden got behind the LGBTI equality movement.

In fact, prior to that, Biden voted against marriage equality. He voted against HIV+ people being allowed to enter the USA, and voted for Don’t Ask Don’t Tell, the damaging military push to deem homosexuality incompatible to military life.

Move forward to the Obama administration, and Biden championed a pro LGBTI agenda.

Biden backed anti-discrimination bills, and spoke out against hate crime. Biden now has a firm record on pro-gay rights. He has stated he will pass pro-LGBTQ legislation in his first 100 days.

This is a far cry from the anti-gay Trump rhetoric.

“I will make enactment of the Equality Act a top legislative priority during my first 100 days – a priority that Donald Trump opposes,” Biden said of the Republican incumbent he is challenging.

Biden has promised to protect and defend American diplomats for speak for gay rights in foreign countries. He said, “America’s full range of diplomatic tools,” including private diplomacy, public statements and United Nations agencies, to promote equality.

Biden is pro-green, and will take action on climate change.

It remains to be seen whether or not this comes to pass, but one thing we know is that nothing can be as appalling as the past 4 years.
