The new six-cylinder engine has features such as an electric supercharger to deliver immediate power response. It can spool fully in just 0.5 seconds at up to 65,000rpm to maximum boost pressure, the new technology virtually eliminates turbo lag.

Along with the Supercharger is a twin-scroll turbocharger and Continuous Variable Valve Lift. The all-new engine optimises performance and fuel economy as well as reducing emissions.

The all-new Start-Stop system switches off when the car is still, and pairs the 3.0-litre engine with an electric motor. The system collects otherwise wasted energy when the SUV is decelerating, to store it in a 48V battery.  That is then used through torque-assist, to reduce C02 emissions by reducing the work load on the engine.

“In-line six-cylinder engines are inherently better balanced than V6 designs and our all-new Ingenium unit builds on that promise to optimise efficiency in all operating conditions. Advanced features, including an electric supercharger, ensure distinctive Range Rover Sport performance and responses, while the intelligent MHEV system harvests energy to improve fuel economy and reduce emissions.” Nick Rogers, Executive Director of Product Engineering, Jaguar Land Rover

The P400 petrol engine powers the Range Rover from 0-100km/h in 5.9 seconds. Power output is 294kw/550Nm, CO2  236g/km, and fuel consumption is around to 8.7 l/100 km, so drivers get V8 performance with six-cylinder efficiency.

The Range Rover Sport has all-wheel drive and air suspension that adapt and respond to road conditions to provide driver feedback. Aluminium construction keeps the weight down which allows agile handling and dynamic responses.
