Geely EX2 electric city hatch confirmed for Australia in 2026

Geely Auto Australia has confirmed its smallest and cheekiest EV yet, with the all-electric Geely EX2 locked in for a local arrival in the second half of 2026. It marks the brand’s first proper step into the compact city car segment and sets the tone for an entry-level EV that is more about smart thinking than big numbers.

The EV march is getting louder, while the doubters shout harder from the sidelines. Buyers, it seems, are ignoring them. Sales data continues to tell a very different story to the pub chat, and cars like the EX2 are exactly why. Small, affordable EVs are what most people actually need, not oversized electric SUVs pretending to be environmental statements.

Charging infrastructure still needs work, particularly in the public arena where decision-making often reflects the opinions of a few rather than the needs of the many. That said, most public charging is already supplied through renewable-backed providers via the regular delivery network, even if the rollout is slower and messier than it should be.

The EX2 sits on Geely’s Global Intelligent Electric Architecture platform, the same underpinnings used by the EX5 EV and the Starray EM-i Super Hybrid. It highlights just how flexible the platform really is. Think less one-size-fits-all and more capsule wardrobe for the electric age. Practical, modular and designed to slot neatly into modern urban life.

Aimed squarely at city drivers, the EX2 is small on the outside but surprisingly clever within. Measuring just over four metres long, it remains genuinely compact, yet Geely has gone hard on space efficiency. There are more than 30 storage compartments throughout the cabin, plus a frunk under the bonnet because of course there is. If you cannot stash a tote, gym bag and emergency iced coffee, what is even the point.

Design leans into charm rather than aggression. The cutesy smile-face front end gives it a friendly personality, while clean body lines and pastel exterior colour options suggest this car is more about self-expression than school-run seriousness. It feels playful, modern and very much tuned to urban life. Picture it gliding through the inner city on a Sunday morning, windows down, playlist up, heading to brunch with a cute tradie riding shotgun.

Inside, the focus is tech-led without being cold. Expect a digital-heavy cabin prioritising ease of use, comfort and everyday livability over gimmicks. Geely says the EX2 is designed to elevate urban commuting. We have heard that promise before, but the execution here looks more believable than most.

In its home market, the EX2 is known as Xingyuan, meaning Star Wish, and the name fits. It became China’s bestselling vehicle in 2025, shifting more than 400,000 units in just 12 months, including a staggering 50,000 deliveries in a single month.

Australian specifications, range and pricing will be confirmed closer to launch, but the intent is clear. The Geely EX2 aims to make electric mobility affordable, stylish and genuinely usable in the real world.
