AC Cars, Britain’s oldest active vehicle manufacturer, has sent the motoring world into a spin with the announcement of a high-performance 2.0-litre engine option for the illustrious AC Cobra GT Roadster and GT Coupe. This new offering will join the existing naturally aspirated and supercharged V8 variants, marking a fresh chapter for the brand’s timeless sports car range.
Expected to roll out in 2026, the 2.0-litre engine promises up to 390bhp and will be offered in two distinct tunes, designed to amplify the driving experience while shedding weight. Thanks to its inherently lighter build and additional carbon fibre components in the chassis, these Cobras will deliver a snappier, more agile feel—perfect for drivers who crave precision over brute force.
David Conza, CEO of AC Cars, highlighted the significance of the move: “This is a key step in our programme of growth, yet allows us to stay true to what define us. Offering clients a wider choice of performance engines will broaden the appeal for our exclusive sports cars and means we can reach the markets that impose higher taxation of large displacement engines.”

Paired with a brand-new dual-clutch gearbox—a first for the Cobra—or a classic six-speed manual, the 2.0-litre models aim to attract enthusiasts who value variety and modern engineering. As ever, AC Cars remains committed to its heritage: the aluminium chassis, carbon fibre bodywork, and exquisite interior finishings will carry over from the V8 models, ensuring every Cobra oozes the same iconic charm and quality.
With pricing expected to start at a jaw-dropping £235,000, these cars are not for the faint-hearted (or light-pocketed). Reservations are already open at AC.Cars, so it’s time to raid the piggy bank if you’ve ever dreamt of joining the exclusive AC Cobra family.
Stay tuned for further updates, including full engine specs and production power outputs, which are slated for a spring 2025 reveal. It seems the Cobra’s bite is set to be as electrifying as ever.
