ANCAP Safety Ratings: Hilux, Palisade, Denza B5 & EVs Rated

ANCAP has just dropped safety results for five new models hitting Aussie roads, spanning dual-cab utes, compact and medium SUVs, and fresh EVs. And the results make for some interesting reading.

The Toyota Hilux keeps its crown as a five-star safety champ, boasting a centre airbag and sharper automatic emergency braking. Consistently Good across all crash tests, it’s a solid package – though a hefty 8-point penalty for its front structure risk reminds us no ute is perfect.

Denza’s luxury plug-in hybrid B5 debuts in Australia with a five-star rating, max points for side impacts, and strong AEB for pedestrians, cyclists and motorcyclists. Meanwhile, the electric GAC AION V also secures five stars on debut, performing particularly well in side-impact and far-side tests.

Hyundai’s Palisade keeps all seven- and eight-seat variants at five stars, with top scores for Child Occupant Protection and generally solid collision avoidance, suffering only minor penalty points for footwell integrity.

The Mitsubishi ASX takes a step back with four stars. Good side-impact and child protection scores are let down by weak driver chest protection and missing centre airbag, lowering adult occupant protection.

ANCAP CEO Carla Hoorweg praised both established and new players, highlighting that these ratings give consumers a clear insight into protection levels and safety advances.
