Citroën C5 X Set for a 4th Quarter Australian Launch

Citroën has unveiled its new flagship, C5 X, which breathes new life into the large car segment with an original design that combines a saloon and a station wagon, an innovative proposition in the purest tradition of great Citroën cars.

The Citroën sales have been somewhat bijou over the last decade or 2. For some reason, French cars, as lovely as they are, have trouble finding homes in Australia. Last month a mere 14 were sold making the year to date total 172. This is up a long way on last year, where only 72 Citroëns had been moved to the end of June.

Hot on the heels of the gorgeous C4, Citroën Australia announced the all-new Citroën C5 X to its range with a single model that comes fully loaded, albeit with somewhat modest performance.

The stunning 5 door has elegance of a sedan, the convenience of a wagon, and the elevated stance of an SUV.

The Citroën C5 X is propelled by a 133kw/250Nm turbocharged 1.6L PureTech Petrol engine, through an 8-speed Efficient Automatic Transmission.

Kate Gillis, Managing Director Citroën Australia, said: “There is no doubt that the Citroën C5 X will further expand the brand’s growth opportunities in Australia. Truly encompassing the brand’s design DNA, the C5 X will appeal to the discerning Australian consumer keen to travel in absolute comfort and stand out in style on the roads.”

If there is one thing Citroën is known for, it is eye-catching design. It is a brave moving, introducing a new model into a segment that is shrinking, but the SUV-like characteristics may float buyer’s boats. Wagons haven’t been a thing in Australia since the 80’s and sedans have been dying a slow death as prospects tilt in favour of SUVs.

C5 X blurs the lines, so although it is in the large car segment, the original design and an avant-garde body shape positions itself in a unique spot. Its sedan style long sloping bonnet, large cargo space of a wagon, combined with the elevated driving position of an SUV that buyers have come to prefer.

Citroën C5 X wraps itself in brand identity with its V-shaped light signature front and rear.

If the sexy C4 is anything to go by, Citroën C5 X will give riders a sense of warmth, serenity and spaciousness. Sadly, the Citroën suspension system that once saved DE Gaulle from an assassin’s grasp is long gone so C5 X has got some impressing to do to satisfy brand loyality.

If the pictures are anything to go by, it should to that in spades.

All-new Citroën C5 X will be in Australian showrooms sometime in the 4th quarter of 2022. Further information, including specification and pricing, will be available closer to launch.
