In a flurry of press releases, BMW heralded the imminent arrival of yet more models. The 2nd generation 4 Series Gran Coupe follows cues from the 3 and 4 series M models. The X3 and X4 SUVs are getting updates including PHEV drivetrains, and exterior design changes.
To say BMW’s range is extensive is an understatement.

ABOVE: New and Refreshed BMW Models
4 Series Gran Coupe:
Apart from essentials like the 7th generation i-Drive system, the 4 Series Gran Coupe comes as a range-topping M440i xDrive Gran Coupé. Its straight six TwinPower Turbo petrol engine has 285kW and 500Nm. That is joined by a couple of TwinPower 4-cylinder models, the BMW 430i Gran Coupé with190kW and 400Nm, and a 420i with a more modest 135kW and 300Nm.
All have the 8 speed automatic, with the top model’s drivetrain including AWD.
X3 M and X4 M Competition:
For those who think race cars should be SUVs, the smaller BMW SUVs are getting the M treatment. They’re powered by a 375 kW/650Nm twin power straight 6.
They come with a 0-100 of 3.8 seconds which is just the ticket for bragging rights at the pub. Underlining the testosterone-festt is the M exhaust with flaps to control sound. Like the Gran Coupe above, the SUVs have an 8-speed automatic with drive logic. Manual shifts come via the paddles shifters, or console mounted selector.
It goed without saying that both cars use the M specific xDrive (AWD) system. They’d probably be undriveable with it.
The front end has a grille that wasn’t anywhere near big enough, so BMW designers made it bigger. I don’t get it, but apparently buyers do. I have a feeling BMW is determined to polarise opinion to the point of mutinty. It’s a look you either love or loathe.
BMW X3 xDrive30e
The phev X3 boosts BMW’s bulging EV brochure with 215kW worth of power, driving all four wheels. You can go a full 40km on EV power only.
The new Matric LED headlights have an all-weather function that replaces fog lights on the previous models.
Not to be outdone, the standard X3 and X4 models are getting a gentle nudge with redesigned grilles, and refined M packages.
Pricing:
As the time to launch gets nearer, BMW will reveal the prices for each model, in other words, they know but if they tell us they’ll have to kill us.
