The Sexy Cadillac LYRIQ EV Global RHD Revealed in Australia

After GM ceasing manufacture, it ceased Holden operations shortly after and one of the reasons given was that GM was no longer manufacturing models for Right Hand Drive markets. Since then, the new Corvette appeared in factory RHD guise and is now to be followed by the stunning Cadillac LYRIQ EV. Gay buyers love a badge, and the LGBTI early adopters love and EV, Cadilac EV comes to satisfy both needs.

“We will launch our all-new Cadillac EV business in both markets focused on three capital cities – Sydney, Melbourne and Auckland – offering customers a highly personalized, luxury buying, driving, and ownership experience.”

Ernesto Ortiz, General Motors President and Managing Director of Strategic Markets, Alliances, and Distributors (SMAD), said Australia and New Zealand were at a formative stage of the EV transition, presenting new opportunities for Cadillac. LYRIQ will be available in both markets as a 2025 model.

“Cadillac’s iconic brand and the LYRIQ’s bold design make it a compelling combination for Australians and New Zealanders who have an eye for quality, love technology, and want to challenge the status quo and stand out from the crowd. LYRIQ is a clean sheet design from the ground up, engineered for right-hand-drive markets globally from the outset, with luxury and style front of mind. We have all the right factors in place, and this is the right time to make this announcement for Australia and New Zealand.”

ABOVE: 2025 Cadillac LYRIQ EV – Global RHD Revealed in Australia

It is GM’s intention to bring a luxury car to the Australian market in a way that will make people sit up and take notice. The vertical stack headlight that has become a Cadilac signature, have an adaptive LED function, and the imperious rear end does a way with a wiper, using a vented roof spoiler instead. The charge port door is powered, and the roof is crowned by a fixed glass panel.

Everything about Cadillac LYRIQ is vast, from the 3094mm wheelbase, to the massive 5005mm length. It has a 102kWh battery, 2 motors for AWD propulsion, and a combined output of 373kw and 610Nm.

The “they make ‘em big in America” doesn’t stop with the exterior.

The sumptuous interior has a huge 9K 33” curved screen arching across the dashboard, angled towards the driver. Its AKG sound system has 19 speakers with active noise cancelling. If you have not heard of AKG before, it is another of the Harman Group brands, so the sound is going to be first class.

The lounge-like cabin is finished with lashings of leather, with GM particularly proud of the interior’s “jewellery”. The elegant controls have knurling to reflect light, and the laser etched doors have 26-colour LEDs to set any mood. While none of that is unique, it is curated in a way that makes the passengers feel regal.

Like all EVs, there is regenerative braking, and one pedal driving that2774kg vehicle to a stop without using the brake.

The SUV-style EV is a first for Cadilac and a brave and classy way to enter the Australian market.

It will be sold direct by Cadilac either online or in a showroom, a process Cadilac calls Direct to Customer or D2C. Tesla, Mercedes, and Honda also use this sales model.
