Get Excited: Cupra is Here, almost.

CUPRA, which is introduced to this market later this year, has been freighted to Sydney, the first of three Born EVs that will  be tested over 10,000km each. This will be the first time that time that the Born has been driven outside Europe, where it is a Car of the Year finalist.

Cupra comes to us from Barcelona. If you haven’t heard of it I’m not surprised. It started as a performance sub-brand of SEAT, a VW Group company. It was spun off as an identity of its own, and here we are a short time later with a stunning looking EV, the Cupra BORN

CUPRA arrives officially later this year, but a test car has been freighted to Sydney, the first of three Born EVs that will  be tested over 10,000km each.

In somewhat of a landmark, this will be the first time that time that the Born has been driven outside Europe, where it is a Car of the Year finalist.

At launch, Australian CUPRAs start with a three model range; the Formentor crossover, Ateca SUV and Leon hatchback. Among these models’ combined 12 variants are two Plug-in Hybrid Electric Vehicles (PHEV) in Formentor and Leon form.

CUPRA Australia Director Ben Wilks re-affirmed CUPRA’s determination to bring the Born EV to market by year’s end.

“CUPRA’s conventional and PHEV range will be unique in this country, the perfect line-up for a new brand to challenge the established order,” Ben said.

“Born is undoubtedly our halo car, one that embodies all of CUPRA’s performance and design allure in a zero emissions package.”

CUPRA started life in 2018 as a stand-alone brand, with the corporate headquarters and a racing car workshop in Martorell (Barcelona), in addition to a network of specialized points of sale around the world.

We can expect to hear a lot of a brand that shares so much with Volkswagen. With that kind of star power behind it, CUPRA will hit the ground running.
