Type 00, pronounced Type Zero Zero, is more than just a design concept. It embodies Jaguar’s commitment to reinvigorating its heritage with fresh, fearless design and electrification at its core. The car’s dramatic silhouette—characterized by a long bonnet, fastback roofline, and boat-tail rear—defies conventional electric vehicle design. This concept is powered by the new Jaguar Electrical Architecture (JEA), which enables the breathtaking form and ensures an electrifying driving experience.
The reveal of the new logo and Leaper motif caused a recent stir on social media. Detractors were thick on the ground, and inside sources tell us that this is Jaguar’s last fling. If this relaunch fails, Jaguar will receive a dagger in the heart. Jaguar was once the go-to for royals, robbers, and ratbags, the cream of society and the underworld. IN recent years, Jaguar’s sales steadily declined and all but one remain in production. The F-Pace will also die a natural death through 2025 leaving only wistful memories in its place.
Adrian Mardell, CEO of Jaguar Land Rover (JLR), expressed his excitement about the brand’s bold new direction, drawing parallels with the magic and magnetism of iconic models like the E-type. “We will create the same sense of awe that surrounded those legendary cars,” Mardell said. “Our journey is already underway, guided by our original ethos to Copy Nothing—and the results will be spectacular.”
As Jaguar redefines its future, Type 00 previews the brand’s transition to an electric-only lineup, an ongoing transformation that will extend beyond products to the very essence of the Jaguar experience. Rawdon Glover, Managing Director of Jaguar, described the car as a bold step into a new creative space: “We’ve forged a fearlessly creative new character for Jaguar that remains true to our DNA but is distinctly future-facing.”
A New Creative Philosophy: Exuberant Modernism
Jaguar’s reimagined identity hinges on three pillars: Exuberant, Modernist, and Compelling. These principles are woven into every aspect of Type 00, from its design to its interior experience.
- Exuberant—Bold, uninhibited, and fearless.
- Modernist—A future-facing, curious approach that respects the past while embracing new possibilities.
- Compelling—Creating extraordinary, sensory experiences that foster deeper connections with clients.
“Type 00 is a pure expression of our new creative philosophy,” said Professor Gerry McGovern, Chief Creative Officer at JLR. “It has an unmistakable presence, the result of brave, unconstrained thinking. It is the foundation for a new family of Jaguars that will look unlike anything you’ve ever seen.”
A Dramatic Exterior and Interior
Type 00’s brutalist exterior commands attention, with a distinctive front light signature and a side profile defined by bold proportions. The Jaguar “Leaper” is laser-etched into a hand-finished brass ingot, which theatrically deploys to reveal rear-facing cameras. At the rear, a glassless tailgate and panoramic roof evoke a sense of sculptural artistry.
Inside, the interior is a cathedral of modernist design, with hand-finished brass elements and soothing travertine stone creating a tactile, immersive atmosphere. The cabin features deployable technologies, such as screens that glide silently from the dashboard, and a bespoke Prism case that allows occupants to tailor the cabin’s ambiance through a series of natural materials—brass, travertine, and alabaster—that influence lighting, sound, and even scent. Brass hints at a “steam punk” influence, but sonte is rarely found in an automotive interior. Jaguar is indeed forging a new path. Who says electric is boring?
“The goal is to create a sensory experience,” said Tom Holden, Chief Interior Designer at Jaguar. “Technology should enhance luxury, not dominate it. The displays and the materials interact with each other to create an extraordinary atmosphere.”
A Symbol of Change
Type 00 isn’t just a car; it’s a symbol of Jaguar’s transformation. The design features the brand’s new device mark, a modernist interpretation of the classic Jaguar logo, and a new monogram that moves away from the “Growler” symbol of combustion engines. This marks a deliberate break from the fading glories of the past, as Jaguar embraces its electrified future while staying true to its design legacy.
Type 00 was unveiled at Art Miami as part of Jaguar’s continued commitment to art and creativity. As the title sponsor of the event, Jaguar also presented an immersive exhibition, “Jaguar. Exuberance,” exploring the brand’s new visual language with original works by British artists. This intersection of art and design underscores Jaguar’s aspiration to engage with its clients in new, meaningful ways.
“Our presence at Miami Art Week highlights Jaguar’s commitment to art and creativity,” said Glover. “We’re directly connecting with the next generation of Jaguar enthusiasts in one of the world’s most iconic cultural settings.”
As Jaguar moves toward its electric future, Type 00 stands as a bold, uncompromising vision—a testament to the brand’s rich legacy, its fearless embrace of innovation, and its unwavering commitment to creating vehicles that transcend the ordinary. The future of Jaguar, it seems, will be anything but conventional.
