McLaren Artura now has a convertible model called, rather imaginatively, the McLaren Artura Spider.
Like its roofed brother, the Artura Spider is a hybrid, a very expensive, very fast one. The roof operates in 11 seconds, and the convertible weighs in at 1457kg.
A 7.4kwh battery provides a relaxed EV-only range of 33km, because eventually the owner will need to drive to the bank silently, for one thing or another. The 0-100 of 3.0 seconds will make the getaway a quick one.
Combined power is up slightly, to 515kw (690bhp) and 720Nm, and the transmission is an 8-speed SSG that uses the E-motor for reverse. The twin-turbo 3.0L V6 is combined with an axial Flux electric motor, a name to conjure with at dinner parties. How often will you ever get to say, “I have an Axial Flux motor,” in conversation, and mean it?

Not forgotten, MY24 Artura coupe owners can have a small 20ps power upgrade free of charge by having their power-wigged flunky convey the coupe to a dealer.
Drive modes fettle the engine, transmission, and adaptive damping. Although most Artura Spiders will be used to cruise down the main drag at 15kph, they’ll be more than capable of a cross-country trip, even if you have to send your luggage on ahead. No doubt most buyers will want to take their half-million-dollar car to the track, but won’t.
McLaren’s carbon fibre passenger tub is mounted with aluminium frames front and back onto which the important bits are attached, making the Artura Spider the lightest supercar in its class.
Artura Spider might be pared down weight-wise, but the supercar still has the comforts of home.
The electric-hydraulic power steering and ADAS system make everyday life easier and safer. Lane Departure Warning has a user-preference “until manually reactivated” via a dash-mounted switch, which along with Road Sign Recognition, is now fitted to all Arturas. At half a million bucks, it seems unbelievable that Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control with Switchable Follow Mode, Auto High-Beam Assist, Blindspot Monitoring, and Rear Cross-Traffic Detection, are options.
The standard sound system has a miserable 5 speakers, but ticking a box gains the Bowers and Wilkins 12-speaker system.
The MY25 Artura Spider also gets new wheel options, as well as a “titanium wheel bolt” box to select. Ticking that saves 400grams on unsprung weight, and gives bragging rights at the track.
Deliveries should commence in the 3rd quarter of 2024.
