Why is Jeep So Bad?
Where do I start?
Jeep is an American brand that has traded on its past for a long time.
Models like Wrangler got a boost, especially in the gay community when Queer as Folk featured a Wrangler. Who could forget the iconic moment the Wrangler drove into the school yard to pick up the delicious Charlie Hunman?
However, the truth about Wrangler is that is is dreadful to drive on the road, and has an appalling safety reputation. It managed 1 star in EuroNCAP when the floor ripped open during a front-offset crash. ANCAP currently has a 3 star for 2019 models onwards. 3 stars is still nothing to crow about.
The interior is chunky, but very old fashioned.
The good point is the off-road capability. However that is tempered by Jeep’s appalling reliability record.

Jeep Grand Cherokee however, is another thing altogether.
It is a lovely looking beast, but manages to feel ye-olde-worlde. It is nice to drive on the road, and fairly capable off-road, but its appalling reputation, dreadful after sales service, and the haughty attitude of dealers, has driven buyers away.
Jeep Grand Cherokee earned the reputation of being the most-recalled. By July 2018, it had amassed 20 recalls. In July, Grand Cherokee was taken back to dealers to remedy a fault whereby the cruise control might experience unexpected acceleration.
A grand Cherokee killed Star Trek actor, Anton Yelchin resulting in a law suit. Jeep Settled the matter in an undisclosed arrangement, after the car rolled forward, pinning Yelchin against his front gate. The difficult to use gear selector, and electric parking brake were blamed. After this time, Grand Cherokee now automatically activates the brake when park is selected.
Jeep managed a miserable 179 sales in April, and only 1,290 so far this year. Admittedly Covid has damaged sales across the board, but Jeep was ailing long before this disaster. Grand Cherokee is the best seller with 666 sales to April this year. Wrangler has had 315 buyers, Compass found 190 homes, and only 117 buyers shelled out for Cherokee. Renegade sold 2 for the same period.
