Alfa Romeo is back in the small car scene with the 2025 Alfa Romeo Junior, a compact crossover that blends style, sass, and shared Stellantis skeletons. Available from $45,900 plus on-roads for the Ibrida hybrid and $57,900 plus on-roads for the all-electric Elettrica, the Junior touches down in Australia this July with bold looks, clever electrification, and just enough Italian flair to make you forget it’s related to a Peugeot.
Yes, beneath that chiselled cheekbone-heavy façade lies Stellantis’ eCMP2 platform—shared with a whole cast of Euro cousins: Peugeot 2008, Opel Mokka, Jeep Avenger, DS 3 Crossback, Fiat 600e, Peugeot 208, Opel Corsa, and the new Lancia Ypsilon. So no, this isn’t a bespoke Alfa beneath the skin. But unlike its siblings, the Junior’s been tweaked, tuned, and tempered by the same team behind the Giulia GTA, with a tight 15.8:1 steering ratio, custom dampers, and Alfa’s much-loved DNA drive modes giving it a more authentic, enthusiast-focused edge.

Interior: Cannocchiale Cool and Digital Drama
Inside, it’s an Italian-inspired cocoon of curves, screens, and stitchwork. The 10.25” cannocchiale digital cluster sits behind the wheel like a pair of chic opera glasses, flanked by another 10.25” infotainment screen angled toward the driver.
Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto come standard, as does My Alfa Connect, letting you monitor everything from charge status to climate settings via your phone. Ambient lighting, spiga-stitched massage seats, and driver-first ergonomics round out the Junior’s cabin with just enough flair to feel special, if not extravagant.
Ibrida: Light Hybrid, Heavy Character
Under the bonnet of the Ibrida is a 1.2L 3-cylinder turbocharged engine, paired with a 21kW electric motor and 48V mild-hybrid tech. It’s all fed through a 6-speed dual-clutch gearbox, and the combo delivers a leisurely 0–100km/h of 8.9 seconds, with fuel consumption of a decent 4.1L/100km (NEDC).
It’s not a full hybrid, but clever software lets it glide silently in traffic with systems like:
- e-Launch (starts in EV mode)
- e-Creeping and e-Queueing for traffic crawling
- e-Parking for silent, stealthy manoeuvring
For urban dwellers chasing quiet efficiency, the Ibrida will likely be the sweet spot, according to Stellantis. A full hybrid is what people seem to prefer so is this a mistake?
Elettrica: Fully Electric, Fully Funky
The Elettrica takes things further with a 115kW/260Nm front-mounted motor and a 54kWh battery, giving it a WLTP range of 407km and a dash from 0–100km/h in 9.0 seconds.
More importantly, the charging is fast and fuss-free:
- 100km of range in 10 minutes on a 100kW DC charger
- 10–80% in about 30 minutes
- Plus the usual Type 2 AC options for overnight top-ups
At just 1,545kg, the Elettrica is relatively light for a small EV, helping deliver that classic Alfa agility even without petrol power.
Drive Modes and Dynamics: Designed for Drama
The Junior adopts Alfa’s revised DNA driving modes, tweaked for the electrified era:
- Dynamic sharpens steering and throttle for spirited stints
- Natural balances comfort with efficiency
- Advanced Efficiency dials everything back to stretch out range and serenity
With input from the Giulia GTA team, Alfa claims this is the most engaging eCMP-platform car to date. Whether it lives up to that claim remains to be seen, but it’s certainly dressed for the part.
Safety: Smarts, Sensors, and Six Airbags
Junior doesn’t skimp on safety. Every model gets a long list of Level 2 ADAS systems, including:
- Adaptive Cruise Control
- Blind Spot Monitoring
- Active Lane Assist
- Traffic Sign Recognition
- Autonomous Emergency Braking
- Drowsiness Detection
- High Beam Assist and Rain-Sensing Wipers
- Active Park Assist
Six airbags and a high-strength structure round out the package, while Elettrica buyers enjoy an 8-year/160,000km battery warranty, with all models getting 5 years/unlimited km coverage and roadside assist.
Final Thoughts: Clever Compact, or Rebadged Ruse?
While the Junior’s DNA may be French-flavoured, it’s been thoroughly dressed and dynamically tailored by Alfa Romeo to bring something stylish and spicy to the compact EV/hybrid scene. It’s more fashion-forward flirt than motorsport missile, but that’s exactly the point.
With looks that dazzle and a price that undercuts premium EV rivals, Alfa Romeo’s Junior may just be the guilty pleasure you didn’t know you needed—even if it shares its skeleton with half the Stellantis showroom.
