GWM is giving all Tank 300 fans something to smile about. The petrol and hybrid versions of this square-jawed adventure wagon are finally getting the same heavy-duty engineering upgrades recently rolled out on the diesel — and yes, that means more muscle for towing and payload.

We loved the diesel Tank 300 in our last review (read it at gaycarboys.com), and now GWM is democratising the toughness. With diesel now making up 60% of Tank 300 sales, it’s no surprise the other variants are being brought up to spec. The new 3,000kg braked towing capacity (up from 2,500kg) now applies across all Tank 300 variants — petrol, hybrid, and diesel. So, whether you’re hauling a boat to Byron or a trailer full of drag gear to Mardi Gras, you’re sorted.

Payload has also had a glow-up, now rated at minimum 600kg across the range — practical, versatile, and ready for Aussie terrain. Behind the scenes, there’s a raft of over 20 mechanical enhancements:

  • Bigger front brakes and beefier calipers
  • Strengthened front knuckles
  • Upgraded wheel bearings
  • A more robust prop shaft

In short: the Tank 300 is now tougher, stronger, and more confident than ever — regardless of what’s under the bonnet.

ABOVE: GWM boosts all Tank 300 models with 3,000kg towing, 600kg payload, and 20+ upgrades — at no extra cost.

GWM’s Aussie arm clearly listened. “These important updates reflect our global team’s growing understanding of the Australian market, where towing capability and payload remain key,” said Steve Maciver, GWM’s Head of Marketing & Comms.

And here’s the kicker: GWM is giving us these improvements at no extra cost. That’s right — the price tag stays put, even with all the extra brawn. The range is also getting streamlined, with the Lux grade petrol and hybrid variants being dropped due to shifting buyer preferences toward diesel.

Every Tank 300 is backed by GWM’s class-leading 7-year/unlimited kilometre warranty, 7 years of roadside assistance, and 7-year capped price servicing through their 114-strong dealer network.

From the Outback to the city, the 2025 GWM Tank 300 is now fully upgraded and ready for anything — just like your ex after a breakup, only more reliable.
