The 2025 Haval H6 GT PHEV isn’t just another plug-in hybrid SUV—it’s the one that makes most others feel like awkward half-measures. Starting at $53,990 driveaway for ABN holders, it delivers fierce performance, proper electric range, and tech that genuinely works in the real world. Most EVs at this price don’t come close. Most PHEVs aren’t even playing the same game.
Coupe-SUV Looks Without the Euro Price
Styled like a shrunken Genesis GV70 or Audi Q5 Sportback, the H6 GT PHEV has sharp lines, sporty cues, and a confident stance. It’s not flashy, but it’s slick enough to look more expensive than it is. It shares its bones with the H6 GT Ultra, which means it gets all the fruit—ventilated seats, a panoramic sunroof, and 19″ alloys included.
Monster Torque, Micro Engine, Maximum Fun
This PHEV has no business being this quick, yet here we are: 321kW and 762Nm, courtesy of a 1.5L turbo petrol four-pot paired with dual electric motors. That’s supercar torque from something that can do the school run on electric power alone. It hits 0-100km/h in 4.9 seconds and even comes with launch control—because why not?
While most plug-in hybrids are tuned for smug fuel sipping, the 2025 Haval H6 GT PHEV is downright frisky. It accelerates hard, feels planted, and throws in all-wheel drive to keep it civilised.

180km EV Range + DC Fast Charging = Game Changed
Here’s where Haval buries the competition: 180km of pure electric driving. Most PHEVs tap out at 50–60km. And this one doesn’t limp along on a 7kW charger. The H6 GT PHEV features a ternary lithium battery that supports 48kW DC fast charging—a unicorn in the hybrid world. That means you can top up quickly, even without access to home charging.
This makes it ideal for strata living, weekend getaways, or long daily commutes without burning a drop of petrol. It’s an EV when you need it to be, and a hybrid when you don’t.
Hybrid Transmission That Actually Makes Sense
The drivetrain is handled by a 2-speed dedicated hybrid transmission. Around town, the dual motors do all the work. On highways, the petrol engine joins the party above 80km/h, helping stretch range to around 1000km on a full tank. It’s seamless and smooth, with regenerative braking doing a solid job of clawing back energy.
You won’t hear the petrol engine much. In fact, unless you stomp on it, you may forget it’s even there. Think of the H6 GT hybrid as an EV, it certainly drives like one.
Cabin Comfort and Useful Tech
The cabin layout is clean and functional, with a 12.3” digital cluster, head-up display, and a central screen that’s mostly intuitive—though it can be a bit laggy at times. You get heated and cooled front seats, dual-zone climate control, and wireless Apple CarPlay (which we had to run via USB due to a few connection gremlins).
The steering wheel has four programmable buttons, but they don’t go far enough. We desperately wanted one of them to toggle auto steering on and off—but that’s not possible. Instead, you have to dive into the drive mode menu to enable it, where it stays active at low speeds whether you like it or not. It’s competent, but it would be better if it could be tied to smart cruise control alone or turned off with a dedicated button.
Reverse Trace Assist + Auto Parking: Surprisingly Brilliant
Most SUVs offer auto parking. Few make it usable. The Haval H6 GT PHEV includes a 360-degree camera suite, but the real gem is the reverse trace assist feature. Say you’ve driven into a dead-end laneway or a tight parking situation. One tap and the car retraces your steering path backwards, steering itself out the way you came in. It’s freakishly accurate and infinitely more useful than the sluggish, twitchy auto-park features we usually avoid like off-brand fake tan.
Auto parking is also included, and it works well enough for a hands-off option if you’re feeling lazy—or showing off.
Final Verdict: This Hybrid Makes EVs Nervous
The 2025 Haval H6 GT PHEV isn’t just good value—it’s a well-executed plug-in SUV that makes a strong case as the smarter EV alternative. You get actual electric range, real performance, and long-haul flexibility, without the charger anxiety that comes with full battery-electric vehicles. It is completely insane.
Sadly, the 5-star ANCAP safety rating does not extend to H6 GT hybrids.
It’s fast. It’s clever. And it’s packed with features the legacy brands are still charging extra for. This is how you do a plug-in hybrid in 2025.
