2025 MG S5 EV From $40K Driveaway: Big Range, Bold Value, and a Bonus Charger to Boot

MG Motor Australia has officially announced pricing and launch details for its hotly anticipated 2025 MG S5 EV, a stylish and practical all-electric SUV poised to shake up the budget-friendly end of the Aussie EV market. With prices starting from just $40,490 driveaway for the base Excite 49kWh, the MG S5 EV is primed to be one of the best-value electric SUVs on the road.

Unveiled at the Melbourne Motor Show and now open for pre-orders, the MG S5 EV offers two battery options—a 49kWh and a 62kWh pack—delivering up to 515km of NEDC range in the top-spec model. Both Excite and Essence trims are available across the battery sizes, all with 125kW of power and 250Nm of torque through a rear-wheel-drive system that shares DNA with the popular MG4.

MG is offering a sweetener; the first 500 customers who place a fully refundable $500 deposit a free 7kW MG Charge Hub, valued at $1,199, to make home charging quicker and more convenient. That’s not just a sweetener—it’s a solid $1,199 saving that makes EV life even more appealing.

Inside, the S5 EV continues MG’s push toward “premium features at mainstream prices”. While that claim is a little ambitious, there is no doubt that MG is giving buyers an offer they can’t refuse.

A 12.8-inch centre touchscreen with MG’s new user interface sits front and centre, with Wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto standard across the range. Opt for the Essence and you’ll score a hands-free powered tailgate for extra value. It seems remarkable for the price.

Built on MG’s Modular Scalable Platform, shared with the 5-star ANCAP-rated MG4, the S5 EV is should offer efficiency awith adequate performance. The ultra-slim 110mm-high battery allows for a more spacious interior, lower centre of gravity, and improved ride dynamics, which MG promises will carry over the much-loved handling of the MG4 hatchback.

Speaking about the new release, MG Motor Australia CEO Peter Ciao said, “The MG S5 EV offers the best value for Australian families in the electric SUV segment. Our engineers have crafted a stunning, tech-packed SUV that brings together great looks, an impressive driving range, and dynamic handling. Australians fell in love with the MG4—and we expect no less for the S5 EV.”

Charging is quick too, with the ability to go from 30% to 80% in 19 minutes using DC fast charging.

MG S5 EV is backed by an industry-leading 10-year/250,000km warranty, with nearly 100 MG dealerships across Australia.

This launch marks the beginning of what MG calls a “landmark year” for the brand, with more all-new models on the way in 2025. With Australians “increasingly leaning toward EVs” and SUVs, the S5 EV lands squarely at the intersection of both trends—an affordable, family-sized electric SUV that offers adequate quality for the price.

2025 MG S5 EV Driveaway Pricing:

  • MG S5 EV Excite 49kWh – $40,490
  • MG S5 EV Essence 49kWh – $42,990

Those ready to break up with the bowser and flirt with the future, can have a, rear-drive electric SUV without the eye-watering price tag.
