Subaru Australia has lobbed a hot new update into the performance playground with the MY25 WRX range, giving the already punchy lineup a fresh injection of tech, safety and style. Just in case the all-new WRX AWD tS Spec B wasn’t enough of a statement, Subaru’s doubled down with upgrades across the board, creating the most feature-stuffed WRX to date. And yes, it comes in purple now—because why the hell not?

At the pointy end of the range are the tS variants, available in both sedan and long-roof Sportswagon form (for those of us who want to look hot while fitting in a Labrador and a week’s worth of groceries). These halo models now score serious bragging rights with RECARO front seats, a snazzy 12.3-inch full LCD driver display, and a newly darkened interior for wagons, ditching the old white roof lining in favour of a sleeker, moodier vibe.

Key MY25 WRX updates include:

  • Driver Monitoring System1 (DMS) now standard across all WRX Sedan variants, featuring:
    • Distraction warning
    • Drowsiness warning
    • Facial recognition
    • Climate control (last used settings)
    • MID display (last used settings)
  • New ‘Emergency Driving Stop System’2 added to the suite of EyeSight® Driver Assist technologies, now standard across the range.
  • 12.3-inch full LCD instrument cluster standard on all tS variants (WRX AWD tS, WRX AWD tS Spec B and WRX AWD tS Sportswagon).
  • RECARO® front seats (eight-way power driver’s seat and four-way manual passenger seat) featured in all WRX Sedan & Sportwagon tS variants.
  • Interior roof and pillar trim in WRX Sportswagon variants updated from white to black, matching sedan styling.
  • Red ‘WRX’ embroidery on the dashboard for WRX AWD tS Spec B and AWD tS Sport Lineartronic® CVT variants.
  • Dark grey alloy wheels on WRX AWD tS Sport Lineartronic® now match the wheel design featured on the WRX AWD RS manual.
  • New exterior colour ‘Galaxy Purple Pearl’ replaces ‘Solar Orange Pearl’ for all WRX Sedan variants.

Across the broader range, Subaru has made its clever Driver Monitoring System standard on all WRX sedans. That means facial recognition, drowsiness and distraction warnings, and even remembered climate control settings—because your car should absolutely remember you like it cold with a side of Beyoncé. Joining the safety party is the new Emergency Driving Stop System, which will gently bring you to a halt if you nod off behind the wheel. It’s like having a slightly judgy but well-meaning passenger riding shotgun.

Subtle styling tweaks abound, including dark grey alloys now shared with the WRX RS manual, red WRX embroidery stitched into the tS and CVT dash, and the arrival of Galaxy Purple Pearl—a colour that sounds like a drag queen, sparkles like a disco ball, and replaces the bright but divisive Solar Orange.

Under the bonnet, it’s business as usual with Subaru’s 2.4-litre turbo boxer engine driving all four wheels with characteristic grip and grunt. Prices kick off at $48,190 for the base WRX manual, with the flagship tS Sportswagon topping the range at $63,290.
