2025 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD Review: Smooth, Silent, and Seriously Upgraded

The best-selling EV in the world (according to Tesla) is now smoother, quieter, and smarter. The 2025 Tesla Model Y Long Range AWD costs $68,900 (excl. on-roads), with first deliveries now underway. Don’t mistake this for a minor refresh—this is a full makeover aimed squarely at refinement and real-world comfort.

From the outside, it’s all sharp lines and Cybertruck-inspired drama. The front gets a cleaner bumper, repositioned pixel-adaptive headlights, and a striking full-width LED light bar. Around the back, the 1.6m rear light strip glows across the tailgate with a reflective Tesla wordmark that looks like it belongs on a concept car. It’s sleeker, more efficient, and very clearly version 2.0.

But the real change happens from the driver’s seat. Tesla has overhauled the suspension, softened the ride, and dropped the decibels. The AWD variant now glides over rough roads with none of the harshness of older Model Ys. Noise insulation is vastly improved—20% less wind and impact noise, 22% less road noise—and that’s before you factor in the new acoustic glass all around.

The panoramic glass roof now features a clever silver coating that reflects 7x more solar energy, keeping the cabin cooler on Aussie summer days and cutting down on AC usage. It’s a small change that makes a big comfort difference.

Range sees a bump too. Thanks to aerodynamic tweaks, drivetrain refinements, and those new 19” Crossflow wheels (or optional 20” Helix 2.0), the Model Y AWD gains 18km WLTP, making road trips easier without the range anxiety.

Inside, it’s calmer, more grown-up. You get ventilated front seats, heated and power-reclining rears, and an 8” rear screen with support for two Bluetooth headsets. Mood lighting lets you pick from one million colours—because why not. The cabin feels high-end without going full luxury car parody.

Tech-wise, you’ve got Tesla’s latest Autopilot HW4.0, a new blind-spot camera embedded in the bumper, and the improved ultra-wideband phone key system that unlocks faster and more reliably. The self-cleaning front cam makes parking easier, and the hands-free power boot now opens as you approach. Naturally.

Add in 24/7 roadside support with mobile tyre vans and loaner wheels, and the Tesla Supercharger network, and this AWD variant makes a compelling case for skipping petrol forever.
