Tesla keeps pushing boundaries with its suite of driver-assist features, and the 2025 Model Y adds an especially practical one—Self-Parking that’s always active. No menu-digging or complicated sequences. As you drive slowly through a carpark or along the street, the system constantly scans for suitable spaces using only its camera-based system—no radar, no sonar, and no LIDAR.

When it detects a spot, a visual prompt appears on the centre screen. All you need to do is tap the suggested space, press the blue “Start” button at the top of the display, then take your foot off the brake and hands off the wheel. The Model Y takes it from there, engaging reverse or drive as needed and steering itself gently into place.

The parking style is cautious—it prefers to leave extra room, which in our test meant a bit of manual correction (about 800mm) to align fully within the bay. That said, it never once failed to complete a park, and the process became smoother the more we trusted it. Letting go of the controls feels odd at first, but once you get used to it, the system is genuinely impressive.

It’s not a flashy show-off manoeuvre—it’s practical, consistent, and reduces parking stress, especially in tight spots. And the best part? You’re still in full control if you need to step in.
