Melbourne, 19 November 2013: The BMW 320i and BMW M135i have both taken out the top awards in their respective classes at the 2013 ‘Australia’s Best Cars’ awards ceremony held at Albert Park in Melbourne today.
For the second year in a row the BMW 320i was awarded Australia’s “Best Medium Car over $50,000.” In addition, the potent BMW M135i claimed the award for the “Best Sports Car $50,000 – $100,000” category – also for the second year in a row.
According to Phil Horton, managing director of BMW Group Australia, winning two categories in today’s very tough competitive environment is high praise indeed.
“We’re delighted both the BMW 320i and M135i came out on top for the second consecutive year. Claiming these two titles over a very competitive field demonstrates just how strong the attributes of these vehicles are,” said Horton.
The judges have praised the BMW 320i, saying: “The 320i’s frugal 6.0 L/100km fuel consumption is again best in class – but it also manages to be at the front of the pack on engine performance”.
“So, as this year’s medium size car over $50,000 winner, the 320i has continued what is becoming a tradition of being the best of the best.”
The BMW M135i was lauded by the judges in the performance car segment, with one declaring: “The concept of putting power to the ground through the rear wheels, leaving the front wheels to simply point and steer, might be simple, but in cars like this it makes for the purest of driving experiences”.
Now into its thirteenth year, the “Australia’s Best Cars awards” is an initiative of the country’s top motoring clubs to provide members and consumers advice on the best car in each category. With over 200 volume-selling models placed through rigorous testing, each vehicle is assessed and awarded on value for money, design and function and on road performance.
