BMW has unveiled a new high-performance test vehicle, the BMW Vision Driving Experience, designed to push the limits of electric driving dynamics. While this rolling test rig won’t see production, its revolutionary Heart of Joy technology will power the next generation of Neue Klasse vehicles, bringing BMW’s signature driving pleasure into the future.
The Heart of Joy is BMW’s answer to the evolving world of electric mobility, seamlessly integrating drivetrain, braking, steering, and energy recuperation. The secret lies in its lightning-fast processing speed—ten times faster than previous systems—delivering unprecedented precision in acceleration, braking, and handling. BMW even subjected the system to an eye-watering 13,269 lb-ft of torque, ensuring it can handle anything daily driving throws at it. This level of power control means that the car’s stability and traction remain superior, even in demanding conditions.
BMW’s goal? Efficient Dynamics squared. Thanks to advanced energy recuperation, everyday braking will primarily rely on regeneration, significantly boosting efficiency by 25%. The Heart of Joy’s smart control also enhances stability and cornering precision, reducing the need for constant driver corrections and ensuring a smooth, controlled ride. The result? A more connected and intuitive driving experience at any speed and in any situation.

What makes this system revolutionary is how it harmonizes multiple control functions into one seamless experience. The Heart of Joy integrates drivetrain, braking, and steering with cutting-edge AI-driven analytics. This allows it to anticipate driver inputs and adjust in real-time, creating a ride that feels almost telepathic. Whether accelerating, regenerating energy, or applying friction brakes in emergency situations, the system ensures maximum efficiency and comfort.
Beyond performance, BMW has engineered the Heart of Joy to be a core component of the Neue Klasse’s broader transformation. At its core, this system is one of BMW’s four new high-performance “superbrains” that will power the Neue Klasse range, alongside cutting-edge automation, infotainment, and comfort control units. These high-tech control units will also contribute to safer, more autonomous driving capabilities, redefining the premium EV experience.
The first Neue Klasse models, featuring this game-changing tech, will enter production later this year at BMW’s Hungarian plant in Debrecen. While the Vision Driving Experience prototype won’t hit the streets, the Heart of Joy ensures that BMW’s legendary driving pleasure isn’t just sticking around—it’s evolving for the future.
