Ferrari revives Testarossa name with 849 hybrid flagship

Ferrari has unveiled the 849 Testarossa, a plug-in hybrid supercar available in both Spider convertible and two-door Coupé forms. The new model replaces the SF90 Spider and SF90 Stradale at the top of Ferrari’s performance range and marks the return of the Testarossa nameplate—first used in 1956 and later immortalised by the 1984 road-going icon.

With a total output of 1050 cv, the 849 becomes the most powerful production Ferrari to date. The Spider features a retractable hard top that opens or closes in 14 seconds at speeds up to 45 km/h, while the Coupé maintains the berlinetta silhouette with identical performance figures.

Powertrain

The 849 pairs a re-engineered twin-turbo V8 producing 830 cv with three electric motors delivering an additional 220 cv. The hybrid system includes two front-mounted motors for torque vectoring and a rear MGU-K derived from Ferrari’s Formula 1 programme. Four driving modes are available via the eManettino: eDrive, Hybrid, Performance and Qualify. In full-electric mode, the car can travel up to 25 km using a 7.45 kWh battery mounted low in the chassis.

Engineering

Ferrari’s largest-ever turbocharger joins titanium fasteners, Inconel exhaust manifolds and revised intercoolers to improve responsiveness and thermal efficiency. Despite the added components, the car matches the SF90’s weight thanks to extensive mass reduction, achieving the best power-to-weight ratio of any Ferrari range model.

Aerodynamics

Inspired by the 512 S and FXX-K, the 849 generates 415 kg of downforce at 250 km/h—25 kg more than the SF90 Spider. Key features include a redesigned front underfloor with vortex generators, twin-tail rear architecture with active spoiler, and a patented wind stop system that reduces cabin turbulence in open-top driving.

Dynamics

Ferrari’s Integrated Vehicle Estimator (FIVE) creates a real-time digital twin of the car, improving traction control, differential management and braking precision. The ABS Evo system uses FIVE data to optimise braking distribution across all conditions. Suspension geometry, tyre grip and gearshift strategy have all been refined to enhance driver feedback.

Tyres

Tyres were co-developed with Michelin, Pirelli and Bridgestone, offering multiple configurations including Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2R (optional), Pirelli PZero R (standard) and Bridgestone Potenza Sport (standard and run-flat). Measures are 265/35 R20 at the front and 325/30 R20 at the rear.

Assistance

Driver assistance systems include Adaptive Cruise Control, Emergency Braking with Cyclist Detection, Lane Keeping Assist, Blind Spot Detection, Traffic Sign Recognition, Surround View and driver fatigue monitoring. All systems are configurable via the instrument cluster.

Exterior

Designed by Flavio Manzoni’s Ferrari Styling Centre, the 849 features double-tail architecture, three-dimensional door modelling and a bridge-like front fascia. Forged wheels with aerodynamic profiles were developed in tandem with the aero team and are fully customisable.

Interior

The cabin blends berlinetta layout with single-seater intimacy. A floating dashboard houses aluminium-framed vents and sail motifs that integrate control functions. The central tunnel and door cards continue the sail theme, while seat options include comfort or carbon-fibre racing. Connectivity includes Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, wireless charging and MyFerrari Connect.

Assetto Fiorano

An optional track-focused spec, Assetto Fiorano reduces weight by 30 kg using carbon fibre and titanium. It introduces twin wings that triple rear downforce, stiffer Multimatic shocks and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup2 tyres. A front lifter is now available, retaining semi-active Magneride suspension. Exclusive livery options include Bianco Cervino and Rosso Corsa with a graduated double-stripe motif.

Personalisation

Two new exterior colours debut: Rosso Fiammante, a metallic evolution of Rosso Corsa, and Giallo Ambra, a warm amber-inspired yellow. A matching Giallo Siena Alcantara trim is available for the cabin. Forged rims offer multiple aesthetic configurations.

Maintenance

Ferrari offers a seven-year maintenance programme across all markets, covering regular servicing and diagnostics by Maranello-trained staff. Hybrid owners can opt for Warranty Extension Hybrid (up to year 8) and Power Hybrid (up to year 16), both including free replacement of the high-voltage battery pack.
