Genesis G90 Wingback Concept Signals Fab Magma Future

Genesis has marked its 10th anniversary with a clear signal of where the brand is heading, unveiling its first Magma production model alongside the debut of the G90 Wingback Concept. It’s a confident step into luxury high-performance, showing how far Genesis has come in a decade.

The G90 Wingback reinforces the idea that Genesis can evolve faster than traditional luxury players. Chief Creative Officer Luc Donckerwolke drove the Concept in for its reveal, underscoring the importance of both the car and the Magma program within the brand’s future strategy.

Based on the standard G90 platform, the Wingback sharpened Genesis’ signature design elements—Crest Grille, Parabolic Line, and Two-Line lighting—into something more assertive and more purposeful. The stretched roofline forms a sleek grand-tourer wagon profile, giving the Concept a distinct typology that moves well beyond the sedan it originates from.

The front end adopts a more sculpted Magma-specific bumper with a prominent badge, deeper air intakes and canards. Flared arches widen the stance, while custom 22-inch wheels sit snugly within the bodywork. At the rear, the sedan boot is replaced with a streamlined tailgate and sharply angled rear glass framed by dual spoilers. A performance-driven diffuser completes the look, bringing cohesiveness without gimmickry.

Inside, the Magma design philosophy is expressed through subtle green detailing stitched into quilted Chamude seats and door trims, along with matching accents across the wheel, dash and centre console. Embroidered Magma logos on the seats quietly reinforce the car’s luxury-performance brief.

Donckerwolke made clear that the Magma program will not be limited by body style. The Wingback demonstrates the flexibility of the G90 platform and the adaptability of the Magma identity, hinting at future sports cars, coupes and convertibles across the lineup. He reiterated the brand’s commitment to resisting an SUV-only landscape, arguing that diverse vehicle typologies still matter.

Finished in a deep and understated green, the Wingback also shows that Magma is more than its signature orange. It represents a design and engineering philosophy rooted in balance, technical clarity and Korean innovation. Genesis wants Magma cars to be powerful but not aggressive, confident but not ostentatious.

The G90 Wingback Concept is more than a design study. It is a marker for the next phase of Genesis, expanding the Magma program and cementing the brand’s direction as it enters its second decade.
