The new generation Subaru Forester’s steady stream of awards has continued, with the capable All-Wheel Drive being named Best SUV in the Yahoo Autos Car of the Year awards, in the United States.

For their 2014 awards, Yahoo Autos editors tested 16 models across a range of categories.

Yahoo said of Forester: “Buyers looking for a capable, sure-footed, dependable machine will love the 2014 Forester. Sure, its look is bland and its plastic interior lacks creativity, but it does everything one could ask of it. It’s easy to drive, compliant and stable, not to mention its soccer-mom practicality. And at (US)$33,220 for our test car, it’s well priced. Subaru knows something simple: What’s not broken needs no fixing.”

It follows multiple recent international awards for Forester.

Last week it was named Best SUV under $45,000 in the Australia’s Best Cars awards, from the nation’s combined motoring organizations.

Other recent awards include:

  • Mid Range SUV of the Year by U.K. 4×4 Magazine
  • Best Car to Buy 2014 by U.S. automotive publisher High Gear Media
  • 2014 Sport/Utility of the Year by U.S. Motor Trend magazine

The U.S. specification Forester previously won the Motor Trend award in 2009 and Outback in 2010, meaning Subaru is the only brand to have won the award three times.

In May 2013, the Insurance Institute of Highway Safety (IIHS, a non-profit organisation supported by auto insurers in the U.S.) awarded the best possible ranking of 2013 TOP SAFETY PICK + to the Forester currently sold in the North American region.
