Honda And Evans Retain ARC Pole Position
Eli Evans and Glen Weston claimed their 10th straight win at July’s International Rally of Queensland, increasing their lead to 61 points more than halfway through the 2013 East Coast Bullbars Australian Rally Championship.
“It was an excellent rally for Honda,” Evans said. “Glen and I were able to hold on to our position and our team mates Mark Pedder and Claire Ryan took third, a great result for the whole team. More than halfway through the year, we’ve been able to secure four wins from four rounds – ten straight for the Honda Jazz – and I’m quietly confident we can finish this year with a clean sweep.”
The consistency and speed of the Honda Jazz allowed the Evans Motorsport team to restore Honda to top spot in the Manufacturer’s Championship in addition to increasing Evans and Weston’s lead.
The penultimate round of the East Coast Bullbars ARC is Rally Australia that will take place in Coffs Harbour from September 12 to 15. Round 10 of the FIA World Rally Championship, the event will see Australian teams competing over the same distance as the world’s top competitors, which means an extra day of racing.
“This is the first time I’ve competed in a race like this and we’ll be preparing mentally and physically for the extra distance,” Evans said. “We’re looking forward to the challenge and the opportunity to compare ourselves to some of the greatest rally teams in the world.”
Honda Australia and Evans Motorsport extended their condolences to the family of driver James McIntosh following the tragic accident at the International Rally of Queensland.
