Fast Charging
IONIQ 5’s E-GMP uses both 400-V and 800-V charge points. The standard 800-V also allows 400-V charging without adapters. This multi-charging system is a world’s first which uses the motor and inverter to boost 400 V to 800 V for stable charging.

The 350-kW charger, charges from 10 percent to 80 percent in 18 minutes, will get 68 miles of range using a 350-kW fast charger in about 5 minutes. Ideal for a quick dash. 10.9 kW on-board chargers yake 6 hours and 43 minutes to full, using Level 2 charging.

Unlimited Charging for Two Years
Hyundai Motor America (HMA) collaborated with Electrify America gives 2021 Kona Electric and IONIQ plug-in sedans with 250 kWh of FREE Fast charging. The Electrify America app shows around 600 stations. Hyundai and Electrify America will then offer unlimited 30-minute charging sessions for two years from the date of purchase.

Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) Function

IONIQ 5 can charge other electric cars and appliances such as: electric bicycles, scooters, camping equipment, etc, and can serve as a charger on wheels. This function can even be used to charge a stranded EV.

Large Car Space – For Passengers and Cargo
IONIQ 5 crossover has short overhangs because of the lengthened wheelbase. It is 182.5 inches long, 74.4 inches wide and 63.0-inches tall on a 118.1-inch wheelbase. Interior space feels like a large car in a compact CUV. In fact, IONIQ 5’s wheelbase is almost 4 inches longer than Hyundai Palisade, but is 14 inches shorter than Palisade.

IONIQ 5 uses steer-by-wire and shift-by-wire systems to provide a nearly flat interior floor. The battery pack is under the floor, between the front and rear wheel axles, giving more legroom to passengers. The Hyundai IONIQ 5 has more passenger volume (106.5 cu. ft.) than Ford Mustang Mach-E (101.1 cu. ft.) and Volkswagen ID.4 (99.9 cu. ft.).

A new separate cooling block design makes the battery pack more compact. Energy density increased by around 10% compared to existing EV batteries. This means battery packs are lighter and lower in the body to aloow more cabin space.

There is 27.2 cubic feet of cargo space with seats up, and 59.3 cubic feet with rear seats folded. Second-row seats can slide forward up to 5.3 inches, recline, and also fold in a 60:40 ratio.

Flexible, Customizable, Smart Interior Design
The Universal Island centre console can slide 5.5 inches forward and backward. The gear selector is behind the steering wheel so along with the sliding console, this allows a driver to get into the front from either side when in tight spots..

All passengers can use the island’s cup holders, 15-watt wireless phone charger and USB ports. It is big enough to swallow a large handbag.

The shift-by-wire gear selector rotates forward for drive and backward for reverse, with Park on a button control. There is a magnetic board just to the left of the digital cluster screen to be used as you do with fridge magnets. There is subtle ambient lighting around the cabin to add mood.

The memory-powered driver’s seat reclines and includes a footrest underneath. Hyundai reduced the thickness of these seats by 30 percent, for extra cabin space. The second-row seats also recline and slide and provides more legroom and headroom than a midsize SUV, or  more luggage space when needed.

IONIQ 5’s roof is one large glass panel without cross members.

Much of the interior is eco-friendly material. It is used on seats, headliner, door trim, floor and armrests

The material is recycled PET bottles, plant-based (bio PET) yarns and natural wool yarns, eco-processed leather with plant-based extracts, and bio paint with plant extracts.

Premium Head-Up Display with AR Technology
IONIQ 5 has a Head-Up Display (HUD) with Augmented Reality (AR) mode, which turns the windscreen into one huge display screen. Drivers can use AR to project turn-by-turn navigation, advanced safety and the car’s surroundings nearly 4 feet (44 inches) in front of their line of sight on the road. This means the driver need not take his eyes off the road ahead.

Innovative Connectivity
Information is provided by a 12-inch, infotainment touch screen and 12- inch driver’s cluster that can be changed to suit the users.

Navigation uses maps and surroundings to plot a charge-friendly course.

There is Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and Bluetooth Multi-connection support, meaning two devices can be paired at once. One for phone calls and the other can stream audio. The system has three years of Bluelink® Infotainment/Map updates.

SmartSense Advanced Driver Assistance Systems Ensure High Levels of Safety & Convenience
The latest Hyundai SmartSense, system is the first Hyundai to offer Highway Driving Assist 2 (HDA 2). There is Smart Cruise Control with Machine Learning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA), Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA), Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), Driver Attention Warning (DAW), High Beam Assist (HBA), and more.

Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) can detect a vehicle, pedestrian or cyclist and even at Junctions Turning. In fact when turning or changing lanes, the system will attempt to steer or brake to avoid a crash. Other semi-autonomous driving features include Intelligent Speed Limit Assist (ISLA), and High Beam Assist (HBA), and Driver Attention Warning (DAW).

IONIQ 5 has Safe Exit Assist (SEA) for the rear doors, which helps prevent passengers from stepping out into danger by using radar to detect nearing vehicles.

Remote Smart Parking Assist (RSPA) for both parallel and perpendicular parking and can be activated via a button on the vehicle’s smart key.

Surround View Monitor (SVM) uses cameras to give the driver a 360-degree view. When reversing, the system will warn or apply brakes to avoid objects whether stationary or not.
