Kia Gets Wireless CarPlay and Other Goodies

Kia, Hyundai, and Genesis make bonza cars according to Max’s mum. She only says that when she is channelling her inner bogan, but she was a veritable cornucopia of joyful squeals when I told the Apple Queen that Kia was getting wireless Apple CarPlay. She said ,“the moment Kia joined the untethered gang,” she was going full-electric.

Max’s mum wants an EV9 which, luckily enough, will be the first to nab the wireless CarPlay feature. Kias with the latest ccNC system can take advantage of the OTA updates coming in early 2024. Hoorah!

Overspeed warning:

We said we would follow up on the Hyundai Group’s over-speed warning system which is triggered with the traffic sign recognition system. 2023 EuroNCAP now needs this annoying warning as part of its criteria, so we can expect other car makers to be following soon enough. You can turn it off, but it is all or nothing. Each time you turn the traffic sign recognition off, the over-speed beeps stop but start again the next time the car is used. Like most of the electronic nannies, they are permanently on. Who switches stop/start off whenever they get into a car that has it? My hand is firmly up, and waving like a demented windmill.

Delivery delays:

Finally, a few words on Kia’s supply situation.  We recently reported Toyota has ceased orders on Camry Hybrid, with wait times had blowing out to over 18 months. Toyota is certainly not alone, delivery dilemmas flow through the motor industry like a bad dose of diahorea. Kia’s popular Sportage and Cerato have big queues of patient punters. Supplies of Sorento petrol models, including theV6, HEV/PHEV, and the people-carrying Carnival, also have a buncvh of buyers on the “order now, drive later” list.

We finish with the stunning Stinger, which ended production earlier in the year.  Kia’s remaining stock are gradually finding homes, but Stinger was never the runaway success it was hoped to be. like the delectable Pro_ceed GT before it, Stonger served as a halo model, propelling the humble Korean brand into trackside fandom. The next few months will see the last of the Stinger’s parked on buyer’s driveways, but we will have a glass of something stiff to see it out. Cheers!
