The LGBTI car owners are as many and varied as the cars that carry them.

Some prefer a single brand, some like performance, and others keenly shop for economy. Here, some of the gay and lesbian readers tell us about their cars, and why they decided on that particular model.

Jaguar F-Pace

Troy, Gold Coast:

This gay driver has had many cars, reflecting a taste for stately comfort.

Driving history includes BMW 3 series, Mini Cooper and Park Lane, and a string of Jaguars including XE, E-Pace and F-Pace.

Troy selects cars based on a balance of comfort and performance, and has had mix of diesel and petrol models. Troy enjoys driving, frequently taking friends and family for a spin to take in the stunning scenery around the holiday capital of Australia.

We look forward to seeing what comes next.

Skoda Kodiaq

Natalie, Brisbane:

This driver is Ex-army and knows what she wants.

Her recent driving history includes Subaru Impreza and Forester, VW Tiguan, and Skoda Kodiaq. With injuries from a tough life in the army, Natalie needed comfortable seats with easy access. Quality and warranty were important, but heated seats with lumbar support were a must.

Natalie doesn’t drive as much as she used to, so the short-ish trips become all the more important. It highlights the need of some, for vehicles to meet very specific needs.

In this case, the car is vital transport for this army veteran.

VW Polo

Jason, Melbourne:

Jason love fast things.

Past wheels include V8 Commodores and other performance cars and bikes. After a life re-assessment, Jason sold his HSV Commodore, among the last Australian-made cars to be created., to be replaced by a VW Polo Beats.

Jason wanted good audio in the humble German, and Beats Sound hit just the right note. He wasn’t out of the performance stakes long though, and has added a high-powered motorcycle to his portfolio.

Golf R

Mac, Echuca:

Mac has had a long affair with hot hatches.

Motoring life started with a hand-me-down Holden Barina, followed by a Peugeot 306. Since then it has been hot hatches all the way. The line started with a Peugeot 206 GTI 180, then VW Polo GTI, Toyota 86, Subaru WRX, and finally a Golf R.

As finances ebbed and flowed, Mac’s motoring followed a clear line of development. He loves the Golf R, and it is hard to imagine what act could follow this AWD performance titan.

Tesla Model 3

Scott and Corey, Brisbane:

After a series of brand models including BMW318i, Peugeot 308, and Ford, Mondeo (the latter 2 were diesel), the duo decided on a Tesla Model 3. Their eclectic tastes reflected changing budget and driving needs.

They used diesel for frequent long-distance trips, but the fuel proved expensive despite the excellent economy. They cited pollution as the main reason for going electric.

With several months of city EV motoring under their belts, they reported the glass roof in Queensland sun to be an issue. They’re sourcing aftermarket tint, as well as a feast of other accessories.

So far, charging at a nearby supercharger has not been an issue, and they’ve managed several mini road trips in an around South East Queensland. The Model 3 frequently has two or more on board.

Subaru Forester

Meg and Kim, Sydney:

It is hard not to admire the sheer determination this couple has shown.

They moved to Australia from the Philippines, carefully planning each step of their lives, including the birth of 2 children, a boy and a girl.

Their planned family included upgrading the car, with Subaru’s Forester giving them plenty of room. They wanted safety and security, as well as value and reliability.

There seems to be a common theme amongst Forester owners worldwide.
