Malaysia has Censored Gay Sex Scenes In ‘Rocketman’

Huffington post reported yesterday that Malaysia has censored gay sex scenes in ‘Rocketman” an epic musical movie about the incredible story of Elton John’s breakthrough years. The film takes us on Elton Johns journey of transformation into an international superstar. The film is packed with our most beloved Elton songs, telling the story of a small town boy that became one of the worlds most iconic pop stars.

Film critics in Malaysia have taken to social media to criticise the cuts. The scenes removed include scenes depicting gay sex and men kissing.

According to the huffington posts report, the head of Malaysia’s Film Censorship Board Safaruddin Mohammad Ali, told the Thompson Reuters Foundation

“We do not allow any scenes that promote LGBTQ in films that are for public viewing”

Safaruddin Mohammad Ali is further quoted to have said,

“Although the film is about the real life of Elton John, it is not for him to allow the public to see whatever he does, or whatever activities he indulges in that is not our culture.”

A country of 32 million the act of sodomy is criminal in Malaysia, punishable by up to 20 years in prison. Rocketman has received a rating restricting it to 18+ viewers in Malaysia.
