MG MGU9 Ute Pre-Orders Open, Joining Packed Aussie Dancefloor

The Aussie ute scene is crowded. HiLux and Ranger have been ruling for over a decade, D-MAX, Amarok and BT-50 are still in the mix, and Kia’s Tasman just joined the fray. In July 2025, the Toyota HiLux sold 4,676 units, topping the charts yet again. Now MG is stepping in with its first ute, the MGU9, and pre-orders are open.

MG says the MGU9’s chassis is tough enough for city streets, bush tracks, and towing duty. It’s built to handle whatever Aussies throw at a ute, while adding a bit of SUV comfort along the way. Early buyers also get a $1000 MG OEM accessory offer for jumping in first.

What it brings to the party:

  • Multi-link rear suspension for a smoother ride.
  • 8-speed auto with 4WD to tackle towing or dirt tracks.
  • A cabin that’s roomy and comfortable enough for long drives.
  • 3.5-tonne towing, easy-access tub, and a fold-out rear step.

The ute market has been Australia’s favourite vehicle category for years. With Kia’s Tasman, HiLux, Ranger, and the usual suspects still dominating, MG’s MGU9 is simply another option for buyers who want a ute that works hard without making the weekend drive miserable.

The dancefloor is full, the music’s loud, and now there’s one more player squeezing in.
