MGU9 gets ANCAP 5-Star Safety Rating, MG Targets SUV-Level Comfort

MG Motor’s new dual-cab contender, the MGU9, has officially locked in an ANCAP 5-star safety rating—cementing its place among the safest utes on the market. Designed to woo both tradies and suburban families, the MGU9 blends rugged utility with SUV-grade comfort, and now, verified crash protection.

The safety credentials are backed by Bosch ESP 9.3, integrating traction control, vehicle dynamic control, and autonomous emergency braking. The AEB system operates at highway speeds, while lane support tech—including lane keep assist and emergency lane keeping—adds further polish. Blind-spot monitoring rounds out the active safety suite.

MG’s Business Director Kevin Gannon said the ute was “designed and engineered for all genres of customers,” with the safety rating confirming MG’s goal to hit five stars across its future lineup. “We’re proud to announce the MGU9 meets ANCAP 5-star safety rating standards, ensuring excellent protection for drivers, passengers and pedestrians,” he said.

Built with high-strength materials to handle both urban chaos and rural punishment, the MGU9 also features a multi-link rear suspension, 3.5-tonne towing capacity, and MG Smart Hatch cabin-to-tub access. Inside, MultiFold seats and a modern layout aim to soften the ute’s workhorse image.

MG’s order books are now open via mgmotor.com.au/pages/mgu9 or through local dealerships.
