The Nissan ARIYA lands in Australia this September, promising to keep Nissan’s EV legacy alive with a sleek design, comfy cabin, and smart tech. But in a market now brimming with fire-breathing electric SUVs, is the ARIYA bringing the heat or just playing it safe?

You can pre-order now through Nissan’s website or your local dealer, choosing between 63kWh and 87kWh batteries, spread across four grades – from the entry-level ENGAGE and ADVANCE, to the power-packed ADVANCE+ and the AWD-toting EVOLVE e-4ORCE with dual motors.

Styling & Cabin Vibes: Tokyo Chic Meets Zen Lounge

Nissan’s “Timeless Japanese Futurism” shines with a coupe-inspired silhouette, minimalist lines, and that signature Kumiko-patterned V-motion shield replacing the traditional grille. It’s an electric sculpture designed to turn heads without screaming for attention.

Inside, the ARIYA feels less like a car and more like a calming urban lounge, with soft ambient “Andon” lighting inspired by Japanese lanterns, a flat floor for spaciousness, and premium materials like real wood-grain dashboard trim and optional full-grain Nappa leather seats. The powered sliding centre console*** adds a touch of modern convenience in this oasis of calm.

Performance & AWD Tech: Solid, Not Shocking

Under the hood, the base ENGAGE and ADVANCE grades push out 160kW and 300Nm, plenty for everyday city and highway driving. The ADVANCE+ nudges power up to 178kW, but the real star is the EVOLVE, packing two 160kW motors and a juicy 600Nm of torque. That’s enough muscle to rocket from 0 to 100 km/h in just 5.6 seconds, and tow up to 1500kg with electric brakes.

Nissan’s e-4ORCE AWD system is a tech marvel, intelligently splitting torque almost evenly front to rear (50.2%/49.8%) and controlling braking at each wheel to keep traction sharp and the ride silky smooth, even in wet or tricky conditions.

Range & Charging: Not Quite Leading the Pack

Here’s where the ARIYA shows some restraint. Its WLTP-rated range sits between 385km and 504km, respectable but noticeably behind rivals like Hyundai’s IONIQ 5 or Tesla’s Model Y.

Charging speed is another modest point. The ARIYA maxes out at 130kW DC fast charging, bringing a 10 to 80% charge in about 35 minutes. That sounds fine until you compare it with the MG IM’s blistering 375kW charge rate, which can shave serious time off those pit stops.

While the ARIYA’s battery is liquid-cooled and features active thermal management for durability and safety, its charging times feel a little stuck in the slow lane compared to some of the market’s newest, quickest chargers. On the plus side, 22kW AC charging support means faster home top-ups where infrastructure allows.

Tech & Safety: Top Shelf & User-Friendly

Inside, the ARIYA pairs dual 12.3-inch curved digital displays – one for the driver, one for infotainment – into a wave-like dash that’s both futuristic and functional. Wireless Apple CarPlay, wired Android Auto, wireless phone charging, and four USB ports (Type A & C) keep devices fully juiced and connected.

The climate controls use haptic touch buttons integrated seamlessly into the wood-grain dash — invisible when off and delightfully tactile when activated.

Safety is comprehensive thanks to Nissan’s ProPILOT⁺ semi-autonomous tech suite, which includes lane keep assist, emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, blind-spot warning and intervention, rear cross-traffic alert, and even a pedestrian sound system for added safety.

Warranty & Ownership: Nissan Flexes the Peace-of-Mind Muscle

Nissan’s warranty program is seriously impressive, offering Australia’s only 10-year, 300,000km warranty when serviced by Nissan. The Nissan MORE program also throws in five years flat-price servicing and up to 10 years roadside assistance.

Battery capacity is covered for eight years or 160,000km, whichever comes first, protecting owners from worrying about early degradation.

Is the ARIYA Hot Enough?

Warwick Daly, Nissan Australia’s Deputy Director Marketing & Mobility, says:

“The ARIYA combines incredible design, intelligent driving systems, and advanced battery and motor technology to deliver a truly thrilling drive.”

And sure, there’s a lot to like here: a sharp design, a calm and spacious interior, clever AWD tech, and a trusted name with a killer warranty.

But in 2025, where the EV arms race is about who can go fastest, charge quickest, and pack the most range, the ARIYA plays it a bit safe — especially with its below-par 130kW charging speed and range that lags behind rivals.

If you’re looking for comfort, tech, and a smooth, confident drive with a proven pedigree, Nissan’s latest EV is a solid pick. Just don’t expect it to set your pulse racing or blow competitors off the road.

The Nissan ARIYA is available for pre-order now, with deliveries starting from September.
