Sound the gong and pour the sake — the Nissan ARIYA has officially left Japan and is en route to Australia, where it’ll go on sale in early September. This isn’t some secret grey import either; these ones are fresh from Nissan’s Tochigi Plant, wrapped in Timeless Japanese Futurism and possibly a few layers of bubble wrap.
The ARIYA is Nissan’s second crack at a mass-market EV after the LEAF, and they’ve gone full design-philosopher for this one. The idea? Sleek, seamless, minimalist — like Marie Kondo decided to build a car that sparks joy and doesn’t burn petrol. Inside, expect clean lines, digital everything, and the occasional “oh, that’s nice” moment.
See the Nissan Australia website
Nissan’s promising all the peace of mind trimmings: a 10-year, 300,000km service-activated warranty (if you keep visiting their workshops), flat-price servicing for five years, and up to a decade of roadside assistance. The lithium-ion battery gets its own eight-year/160,000km capacity warranty, because apparently EVs can be needy too.

While local specs remain under wraps, globally the ARIYA has been offered with multiple powertrains, all-wheel drive options, and enough tech acronyms to keep a spec sheet warm at night. In Australia’s EV market — currently dominated by Tesla Model Y sightings and BYD Atto 3s in Westfield carparks — the ARIYA could be the quietly stylish alternative.
Now we just have to wait and see if it drives as good as it looks. Or at least as good as it photographs, because lighting is everything, darling.
