TROUBLED automaker Saab hopes to restart production within two weeks after receiving orders for 10,000 vehicles and securing enough cash to pay workers, the company said.
The Swedish government is due to announce whether Russian financier Vladimir Antonov should be approved as a shareholder, which would allow the production lines to roll again, the local TTELA news website reported.
“A statement is imminent, I would think within a few days, but maybe not this week,” Trollhattan local lawmaker Peter Eriksson told the website.
The news came as the company’s information manager, Eric Geers, said it had orders for 10,000 cars pending. “It is very important for the whole system to get started as quickly as possible. And believe it or not – orders have even been dropping in during the crisis,” English-language news website The Local quoted him as saying.
He added that salaries for June had been paid but was unable to say how money for future months would be raised.
