Stellantis has rummaged down the back of the corporate sofa and come up with a cool $13 billion to supercharge its U.S. operations—the largest American investment in its 100-year history. Over the next four years, the maker of Jeep, Dodge, and other icons of noisy freedom plans to launch five new vehicles, expand production by 50%, and add more than 5,000 jobs across Illinois, Ohio, Michigan, and Indiana.

CEO Antonio Filosa said the move “drives our growth, strengthens our manufacturing footprint, and brings more American jobs to the states we call home.” He stopped short of adding, “and keeps us out of Trump’s firing line,” but the sentiment was implied. After all, with a looming U.S. election and Trump’s fondness for “loyalty fees,” every automaker wants to look suitably patriotic.

Illinois gets the big comeback story: Belvidere Assembly Plant will reopen to build the Jeep Cherokee and Compass, creating over 3,000 jobs. Ohio’s Toledo complex gains a new midsize truck line, while Michigan preps a range-extended EV SUV and next-gen Dodge Durango. Over in Indiana, the new GMET4 EVO four-cylinder engine will be born—a marvel of efficiency with a name that sounds like a Pokémon evolution no one can catch.

But not everything is moving Stateside. Stellantis’ slick new eDCT (electrified dual-clutch transmission)—a key piece of its hybrid and EV strategy—will continue to be lovingly crafted in Italy’s Mirafiori and France’s Metz plants. Those Europeans, bless them, do know their way around a gearbox—and an espresso machine.

With 34 U.S. facilities already humming, Stellantis’ latest play blends American industrial brawn with European finesse. It’s an automotive love story told across two continents: Detroit builds the muscle, Turin handles the brains, and somewhere between them, someone’s polishing a new badge that says “Made in both places—deal with it.”
