Nissan Oceania has secured a heavy hitter for its leadership team, appointing Steve Coughlan as Head of Communications. Effective immediately, Coughlan takes the reins of media strategy across Australia and New Zealand, bringing a massive 23-year career spanning Sydney, Hong Kong, and Japan back to local soil.
Coughlan is no stranger to the Australian circuit. He cut his teeth at Toyota Australia in 2003, spending nearly 15 years mastering everything from sales and product planning to media relations. In 2018, he went global, joining Nissan’s luxury arm, INFINITI, at its Hong Kong headquarters.
His trajectory continued upward in 2020 with a move to Yokohama, Japan. At Nissan’s global HQ, Coughlan was a key architect behind the worldwide launches of the QX60 and the flagship QX80. By 2023, he was paromoted to Deputy Director of Global Communications, a role that saw him managing high-stakes messaging for both Nissan and the high-performance NISMO motorsports team.

Reporting to Katherine Zachary, Region VP of Communications, Coughlan arrives at a critical turning point. Nissan is preparing for a product blitz, with the new Navara and Patrol on the horizon, alongside refreshed versions of the X-Trail and Qashqai.

His mission is clear: reconnect with the local media landscape and drive the narrative for Nissan’s next generation of vehicles.
