MINI Australia has revealed the upcoming release of its refreshed MINI Cooper Convertible, arriving mid-2025 with three models on offer: the Cooper C, Cooper S, and the high-powered John Cooper Works (JCW). Designed for drivers who relish the freedom of open-air motoring, the new lineup combines style and practicality, with options to suit different driving preferences.
A Practical Take on the Convertible Roof
The MINI Convertible sticks to its classic style with a fabric roof that’s as functional as it is nostalgic. Available in standard black or a Union Jack pattern, the roof can either slide back as a sunroof or fully retract with the press of a button – even at speeds up to 30 km/h. This setup means you don’t have to pull over to adjust the roof for Australia’s famously changeable weather.
While boot space is naturally on the modest side, MINI has maximised what’s there. With the top down, you get 160 litres of storage, expanding to 215 litres when the top’s up. There’s also a height-adjustable option, letting you fit in taller items if needed – a useful feature for those accustomed to the trade-offs of convertibles.
Three Models
Each model brings its own approach to power and performance. The Cooper C, featuring a 120kW engine and 250Nm of torque, offers a smooth and easy-going drive that doesn’t skimp on personality. It accelerates from 0-100 km/h in 8.2 seconds, which is sprightly enough for zipping around town.
For those after a bit more punch, the Cooper S ups the ante with a 150kW engine, bringing the 0-100 km/h time down to 6.9 seconds. It’s a good middle-ground for those wanting a touch more thrill. Then there’s the JCW, MINI’s high-performance option, with 170kW and 380Nm of torque. This model does 0-100 km/h in a brisk 6.4 seconds, with a bold grille and red accents that give it a street-ready presence. Although, 0.5 seconds quicker to 100 doesn’t justify the price alone. There is that JCW swagger to sway a buyer’s wallet.

Stylish Interior
Inside, MINI’s taken a streamlined approach with a minimalist design that the brand says emphasises practicality. The JCW model brings in a sportier look, with red-and-black accents and vegan leather (aka plastic) seats, but overall, the cabin is focused and functional. The high-contrast OLED display remains bright even under full sun, while the simplified layout keeps the essentials front and centre.
Adding a bit of MINI’s playful side, there’s an “Always Open Timer” that tracks how long you’ve driven with the top down – a fun addition for a car designed for the open road.
A Small Convertible with Big Personality
The new MINI Cooper Convertible is still 100% unmistakably MINI: compact, quirky, and filled with character, for a price. While the original Mini was cheap as chips yet still appealed widely to all walks of life, the new model is a premium experience
Each model blends style and performance with a practical edge, making it ideal for Australian summers. For those looking for a fun, distinctive option that embraces the sunshine without taking itself too seriously, the new MINI Convertible will be one to watch when it hits the road next year.
