Tesla’s FSD (Supervised) Goes Public Down Under—But Don’t Call It Autonomous
It’s official: Tesla’s Full Self-Driving (Supervised) has landed in Australia and New Zealand, marking the first right-hand-drive markets to receive the feature publicly. And yes, it’s “supervised”—so keep your hands on the wheel and your ego in check.
Following a demo drive in Brisbane that had more cameras than a Real Housewives reunion, Tesla has begun rolling out the feature to eligible Model 3 and Model Y vehicles equipped with HW4. The update is delivered over-the-air, meaning your car could wake up smarter than your ex—provided it’s parked near WiFi.
From Thursday morning, owners who’ve already purchased the Full Self-Driving Capability can activate FSD (Supervised) and take it for a spin on their morning commute. For those who skipped the upfront package, Tesla now offers it as a paid upgrade, with a subscription model reportedly in the works. Every new Tesla sold in the region will also be eligible to add FSD (Supervised) à la carte.

But before anyone starts rehearsing their Oscar speech for “Best Supporting Passenger,” Tesla is very clear: this is not autonomous driving. The system requires full driver attention, hands-on control, and a readiness to intervene faster than Great Aunty Ag at a family wedding.
The rollout follows months of teaser videos showing Teslas navigating Melbourne laneways and Auckland’s tight city streets with the poise of a ballroom dancer and the caution of a tax auditor. It’s a milestone for Tesla’s software team, and a moment of reckoning for Aussie and Kiwi drivers who’ve long watched the FSD circus from afar.
Whether it’s a game-changer or just another chapter in the “almost autonomous” saga, one thing’s certain: the future of driving in the Southern Hemisphere just got a firmware update.
Confirming that Test Drives for Full Self-Driving (Supervised) will start at Tesla Stores from Thursday 18th September.
