Tesla has officially given Enhanced Autopilot (EAP) the flick in Australia. The $5100 option – once beloved for lane changes, auto-parking, and the “come here boy” Smart Summon trick – has been scrubbed from the order list for good. New cars, old cars, Hardware 3, Hardware 4… doesn’t matter. Gone.
Instead, buyers are being funnelled into Tesla’s shinier, bossier Full Self-Driving (FSD) Supervised. It’s clever, yes, but also prone to tantrums, side-eye, and a firm belief it knows best – like that one friend who insists you should always “trust the vibe” of their shortcut. On our test trip to Tesla HQ, FSD gleefully took us 10km out of the way, through two tunnels and four tolls, just so we’d approach from the “correct” side of the street. My wallet whimpered, my battery cried, and FSD was smug as ever.
EAP veterans can upgrade to FSD for $5000 outright or soon via a $75 monthly subscription, while newcomers are being asked to cough up $10,100 or $149 a month. Bargain? Only if you’ve never seen a calculator.
On the road, FSD Supervised is part genius, part drama queen. One minute it’s smoother than a seasoned drag ball runway walk, the next it’s sailing through a red arrow or freezing at a roundabout. And heaven forbid you dare intervene beyond flicking the indicator – it throws its digital toys out of the pram and switches off. Tesla calls it “supervised autonomy.” We call it “Level 2 with diva energy.”

Our full video review dives into the chaos. You’ll see every toll-happy diversion, every panicked intersection, and every glorious stretch where FSD feels like the future – all captured in high-definition, complete with our running commentary. Watching it wrestle Sydney traffic while keeping a straight digital face is worth the popcorn alone.
For now, the only way to get EAP is by buying a certified pre-owned Tesla, since those still come with the discontinued package intact. Think of it as vintage shopping: the jacket fits, but only if you like it pre-loved.
Verdict? Enhanced Autopilot is dead, Full Self-Driving is brilliant but bossy, and if you’re brave enough to watch the madness, our video review proves it’s never dull.
