Here’s the thing, some of the petrol cars we had over the last 6 months use as little fuel as hybrids. And don’t forget, especially as we’re off on our road trip tomorrow, hybrids actually use more fuel in the highway than around town. Do you do much highway driving?
The Mini, Peugeot and BMW will all have the same series of 4 cylinder TURBO engines. They are tiny with a bit of kick.
I was asked last night whether a Honda Insight is any good. It has its niche as does Toyota Prius, but in my view unless you only drive around the city, hybrids are too limited. How many Priuses have you ever seen on the highways?
On a long trip, something with a bit of space, or no roof, is absolutely essential isn’t it? I think a diesel on a long trip just can’t be beat for economy as engines currently stand. Even a Jag XJ diesel would make from Sydney to Brisbane on a single tank wouldn’t it?
Read back through some of the tests and you’ll see I’m not a fan of the tiny tin cans that pass as city cars. The only one I have any time for is the Smart by Mercedes Benz. There are some Toyotas I don’t mind at all, but every time there is a hold up at a set of lights, you can bet it’s an old sheila in a Yaris who doesn’t know her arse from her elbow.
Follow my usual advice and drive, drive, drive. Only buy something when you can imagine stepping out of it on Oxford Street without the queens falling about the place in fits of laughter!
Cheers my dears…..
