2022 Nissan GT-R Gets 2 New Models

Nissan’s 2022 GT-R gets 2 extra special editions: the GT-R T-spec and GT-R NISMO SV.

GT-R models include: Premium, Premium Luxury, and T-spec editions, NISMO, and NISMO SV editions.

These will be the last current generation GT-R for sale in Australia.

“The GT-R has earned its place at the pinnacle of performance around the world, acting as a true automotive icon for more than 50 years,” says Nissan Australia Managing Director, Adam Paterson.

“This isn’t the end of the GT-R story in Australia, but it will mark the closure of this chapter for this generation vehicle. And there is surely no more fitting a send-off for this performance hero than with an expanded range offering that includes not one but two thrilling special editions.”

The Performance Coupe Details 

The MY22 Nissan GT-R range starts with a 24-valve 3.8-litre V6 engine, with 419kW at 6800rpm and 632Nm at 3300rpm. Transmissions remain as the reliable six-speed DCT automatic with three driver-selectable modes.

The 20-inch lightweight RAYS forged-alloy wheels (20×9.5 front, 20×10.5 rear), are shod in Dunlop SP Sport Maxx high-performance tyres. Handling is further enhanced with carbon-fibre engine chassis brace and carbon-composite front cross member.

A blue titanium exhaust with sound control looks as good as it sounds.

Inside, there are classy leather-accented seats (heated in the front), an 8.0-inch touchscreen with navigation, a BOSE sound with 11 speakers, ad smart entry and start.

GT-R Premium Luxury adds hand-stitched semi-aniline leather-accented seats, steering wheel, gearshift, dashboard and door panels.

2022 adds the GT-R T-spec exclusive edition puts a further buyer option between the entry GT-R and top NISMO versions.

T-spec adds Brembo carbon-ceramic rotors, measuring 410mm front and 390mm rear, and  Dunlop SP Sport Maxx high-performance tyres on the model-exclusive forged gold alloy wheels.

There is a new carbon-fibre to add to the special feeling, and in the cabin, the steering wheel, shift lever, seat trim and dashboard decoration have an exclusive feel with the unique dark green colour. Upholstery extends to quilt-stitched Alcantara roof lining, suede A-pillar finishers and model-exclusive kick plate finishers.

The Nismos

GT-R NISMO brings GT3 Racing-derived technology in the form of the VR38DETT 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6. It has GT3 race car-supplied turbochargers that bump up the output to 441kW at 6800rpm and 652Nm at 3600rpm.

The prodigious use of carbon-fibre extends to the boot lid, front and rear bumpers, side sills, rear spoiler and roof, lowers the weight significantly. To bring that feeling into the cabin, the NISMO Recaro leather-accented seats with Alcantara inserts, comes with carbon-fibre seat-backs.

Further NISMO treatment comes in the form of a red-and-black interior theme, NISMO Alcantara-wrapped steering wheel and gauge hood, and a NISMO tachometer.

The epitome of Nissan performance is the NISMO SV, which has a clear-coated carbon-fibre bonnet, that lowers weight by another 100 grams. Alloys again, are exclusive. The 20-inch Rays aluminium forged wheels have red accent that matches existing accents around the body.

The large Brembo callipers are fitted on carbon-ceramic rotors which are the biggest ever fitted to a Japanese performance car, at 410 mm in the front and 390 mm at the rear. Engine enhancements include new high-precision, weight-balanced parts including piston rings, connecting rods, crankshaft, flywheel, crank pulley and valve springs dialled in with tighter tolerances, delivering snappier revs and quicker turbo spooling.

Each engine is handcrafted by its own takumi technician. The takumi certification plate on the engine is also in an exclusive colour.

The 2022 Nissan GT-R T-spec and NISMO SV will arrive in Australia from October.
